    Saving up for a guitar!

Well, I've been playing Guitar Hero for the last few years, and yeah it's fun...but I want the real thing, not a video game that I suck at playing anyways. So I decided to save up for the next 2 months and get myself an acoustic, along with the book, "Learn To Play Guitar With Metallica". I really think I might have a God-given natural aptitude for it, because having real strings make a heck of a lot more sense than colored buttons. Really looking forward to it; "Smoke on the Water" or "Highway to ****" will likely be my first song...they sound easy enough!

I wish you luck man. I used to play when I was young and just recently got back into it, but it seems like I'm have to start at base one again.

Let us know how it goes.

I've been playing for about 20 years. Learn to read tab and practice everyday. You know the solo to Free Bird that everyone raves about on Guitar Hero? I can play it for real.
The harder I bash, the more I can upgrade.

smoke on the water is a most for beginners man. you can play that in your sleep. but the grip master or something like it is def a good thing to have. i now own a crate 120 that i play my dime addition dean, my washburn dime 332 and last but not least my very first guitar my fender strat( cant get no metal tone out of that ). i am running a mxr fullbore metal distortion with a zakk whylde chorus and a crybaby from heck(jeez). man crank the crybaby wide open and set the fullbore to straight up rounchy and hit the floyd rose for some squeals. but back on track practice practice practice im sure those of us that have plaied and still do cant stress that enough. corection my amp is a gt212 i got 120 from its a 120w

Whoa! Complex language dude! This is my first time holding anything that makes music besides a whistle, so I need everything to be dumbed-down a little bit. I know absolutely nothing.

I just won a Gibson SG Standard Limited. I loveeeeee it to death. Although it is a $2,000 guitar let me tell you, there is no reason to get a guitar that costs more than like 300 bucks

Yeah, I'm starting with a $100 Epiphone 150, they say it's a good beginners guitar. Getting it in vintage sunburst, might get an electric eventually.

That looks awesome, but I'm guessing that it's for electrics only?

Congrats! It is a skill and love that can get you through the rough times, and brighten even the best times. I have been playing since I was 6(41 now), and it has served me very well.

    A couple of tips...

Learn Tab, it is super easy to learn!

Make friends with a couple of guitar players. You will learn so much by playing with other people, and there is a lot to music that can never be put into a book. If you find a really good drummer, never let him go, or you will regret it. I speak from experience. Find the most talented people that will let you play with them. You will improve much faster.

If you ever feel that you stink, dont sweat it, as no matter how good you are, someone will always come along and blow your mind with how much better they are. Use it as inspiration.

When playing "mary had a little lamb" 1 note at a time type things, hum along in key with it. You might stink at it at first, but once you get it and keep doing it, it really helps with "ear training". Listen to the soft sweet lead (while he hums the same in the vocal track) in Pink Floyd's "wish you were here" if you dont know what I mean. This eventually will help you to learn those tough leads that you dont have the tab for (or sometimes the tab is wrong) and can make a big difference in your performance. It will also help your brain to get used to doing many things at once, which is a requirement.

Play in front of people as much as possible, no matter how bad you are. It really helps. If you can stink in front of a bunch of strangers in the beginning, it will be easier to play in front of 500+ in the future (and believe me there is nothing easy about that).

If it isnt in tune, you will sound like poo, no matter how good you are.

Learn to sing well while you play. You can get payed a lot even if you dont have a band, and most important... More girlies!!!

P.S. good choice starting on an acoustic. Its a little harder and more painful, but having stronger hands will serve you well.

Good luck, and if you need any advice, or have any questions, lmk!

My fave stage guitar was an elcheapo epiphone les paul I payed $250 for. Nothing ever played me better. Coolest guitar I ever owned was my 94' strat 40th anniversary. It was a strat that had an alum hollow body (actually had an alum ladder frame inside!). The official name was "alum stars and stripes". Should have never sold it...

    P.S.
