Change your diff oil. The diffs likely aren't full.

There are/were guys saying there diff (rear mostly) felt like there was no oil. 50/30 was recommended by some of the local racers. The manual (at least the current one on page 23) says there is 50k in the front and 30k in the rear, so I was going to leave it as-is since my new Rally definitely felt heavier up front than rear, but the rear did not feel empty. Since I had the car torn down anyway for modifications, I figured, I should be sure. I open the front diff. There was thick oil inside, but was half filled at best. I wiped out the majority and filled it with some new 50k. It was a huge difference. It's way heavier action now... like 2X heavier. This just adds again to why I prefer kits over RTRs.

I was going to post a pic of my own, but found this one and it looks exactly like mine did.

Very common... I would think it would be beneficial for Traxxas just to include a small bottle of fluid with the RTR. lol
Whatever it is I just said... I could be wrong.

I know keeping the lighter weight oil in the back helps it turn better, but anyone see any negatives to 50k in front/rear? I need to hit up the hobby shop and get some and I'd really rather just buy one bottle.

With a bottle of 10k and 100k you can have anything in between:

when my mustang was in working order

i did a clean down and put the 50k(front diff) in the rear and the 30k(rear diff)

and trying to drift with with 30/50 was almost inposible becuase half to three quarter away throght a drift one of the front tires stoped and the other unloaded resualting in a spin out

just me but its funny how meny parts you can break and still drive(axle carrier, tie rod, front body post one battery door,)
but the fun end when you break both doors all in all 120 for fix grades(fix / basic upgrades)

That's the first thing I do whenever I get a new traxxas rc that has a diff. Well after a few test runs that is. Go figure all 3of my minis had empty diffs. I also bought 2 centre diffs and they had no fluid either. My slash PE on the other hand was fine. Oh and my rally had about a drop of oil in each shock.

I've actually ran shocks without oil a few times while racing on purpose (back in the day with an RC10). I'll pull the diffs next weekend and check them out. May as well shim them while I'm at it.

I just bought the center diff which is also supposed to have silicone oil in it. There was literally just enough in there to make the parts shine. This is just sad.
