Building a small track for my Pede.

No where to run around here so I decided to build my own small track. Me and my sons will be using it and running multiple mfrs including my pede 4x4 vxl. I will be posting pics along the way. Suggestions are welcome. We only have a small area to dedicate to it so it will be a tough course.

Here is the site we have to work with.

The dirt is leftover from our swimming pool excavation. Should be good to build jumps.

    Laying out the course.

Sprayed grass/ weed killer then 3 days later sprayed again. This is after a week.

Raking dead vegetation and prepping ground to till.

Awesome. I am clearing some of my property to do this. If I sprayed the lawn to make a track, my wife would murder me...

You need some video of you racing on it to share

You could accidentally over fertilize it...
I am trying to keep it somewhat nice thats why the infield will remain and I will seed it to make it look nice, its all crabgrass now. She kinda flipped when I showed her the corrugated tubing I want to use so I am going to use some recycled skid lumber to separate the track from the lawn. More pics soon.

I built a small track as well. My wife bought the lawn killer for me. LOL

I think it needs to be a little bigger.

my 50 by 75' track was originally for a warm up jump track for my bmx bike. I'm 32 with 3 kids and couldn't work for 3 months cause I crashed my bike a year ago. Now its for my pede and kids. Anyhow, it helps allot if you don't want to truck in any dirt to dig down a bit before the jump then use that dirt for the jump. when ur all done you just put it back and throw seed down. I brought in 5 yards and have 3' tall jumps and a 4 by 8 plywood wallride that makes for a good time. 15 high front flips are sweet!

Keeping the infield clean makes it look real nice, get some hydraulic fluid for the track to keep the grass from coming back up,works way better then grass killer.Mow into the infield to keep from putting grass on the track. If you are going to put ramps in,make them small you don't need much. You can adjust the angles on the face of the ramp for height.

Good advice. I like the hydro fluid idea, that should also help the dirt pack well.

Your story brings back memories. I wiped my 4 wheeler a couple years ago and broke my wrist and a couple ribs. I was off for 3 months. While I was off I started to build mine. It originally started as one big circle. Slowly I have been changing it to make it more difficult. I do plan on adding jumps. But since I am back to working its hard to find the time for improvements. My kids like to ride there bikes around it so I dont want anything too big.
I like the hydralic fluid idea. Right now my track is a dust bowl. Chokes up the nitro cars quick.

yep, realizing your not invincible sucks. I tell my wife a-arms are cheaper than a co-pay and I don't miss work Hydraulic fluid i'm sure works great but i find raging burn outs seem to work great. If you can in the spring when its super wet is the easiest time to skim off the top layer getting any weeds/grass that grew in. Watering your dirt sure makes the neighbors confused too

when they ask why you are watering your dirt, tell them that "well, its better than sacrificing goats..." and then walk away 8)
