    is your slipper safe?

i ran my slash in gravel. i heard noise from the tranny area. i opened the tranny. tranny is good. i run the mesh. there is noise. the spur is inclined. and it wouldn't come uninclined. i opened the slipper, pads are good. the disk edge ( center ) is bent. how did that happen? the pressure is good, not too tight. so next time you hear noise, check your slipper. again how could that happen?

Are you saying the slipper friction ring was warped??
You could have lodged a small stone in there somehow, bottom of gear cover has a notch cut out just above the output shaft, good place for rocks to enter.
I have taped over this hole and use a small bead of silicone to seal the dust cover onto the trans

I started to go through spur gears till I got the RPM gear cover. Haven't had a problem since!! It pays for its self saving spur gears!

Funny thing but I bash on dirt and gravel all the time with no gear cover without a problem. My slash is now 32p but my Rusty and Pede are still normal 48p and no gear cover. Maybe I'm just lucky.
What broke, uh, needs upgrading now?

You can get larger debris jamming between the gears, and break a motor shaft, but I have been bashing naked (no gear cover) for years with no problems.

The only time I ever distorted that ring was cranking down too hard on the slipper nut. Have a pic of it?

cool, it can get distorted when you crank the spring all the way down, before backing the slipper nut back off. A little too much torque and it can get messed up.

the disk is most likely cannot be bent back since its one of those small round edges in the middle

the whole disk should bend, not a little edge, rag6

I'm gonna need to see it. I am having a hard time visualizing it.
How about a rock getting jammed in the clutch shoe/slipper ring area? Maybe as it spun, the edge was compromised by the rock?

    The "slipper pegs"?
No, they should not be "bent" at all.

but it is, it sticks up and it somehow inclines the spur, making a noise when the spur and pinion move by the motor or wheels turing

    Pic posting...

Now I can picture it in my head. Those little "guides?" would be really hard to bend without something jamming in there. Have no other ideas why it would happen.

Whatever you want to call them, if there are more than one and one of them is visibly screwed up - replace them.

Sounds like the slipper tried to twist on the shaft. I've never had that happen... maybe it got overheated from being a little too loose... or too tight.

If it got loose enough to pop out of position it might have gotten bent from all the torque generated from the motor. There is A LOT of energy in the VXL driveline.

Once you get a new backing plate, don't put the cover back on. Even if you cover up the holes, stuff still magically gets in there.

With the cover on once something is in there it just keeps bumping around doing damage. With it off, debris just bounces away.
