    Aluminum skid

So for the 3rd time now my truck broke were the chassis screws into the bulk and snapped the front skidplate, even with the rpm wear plate on. The first time it sheared screws off in the bulk and ruined it The nitro stampede and tmaxx hit head on and the tmaxx broke but not the stampede. Can anyone reckoned a good front aluminum skid?

Aluminum skids vary in quality depending on the aluminum and the manufacturer, but any full length aluminum skid will get bent (some quicker than others).
If you’re set on using an aluminum skid buy a decent brand and cut ½ of the upturned lip off. This will reduce the chance of bending the skid. I often use aluminum skids with aluminum bulks but I cut almost all the lip off and still use an rpm wear plate over the skid relying on the lip of the wear plate.
    No slipper/tall gearing/power = broken parts.

Aluminum will bend and either strip your screws or bend if you crash! Read what nitronaught has to say about aluminum bulkheads on my thread about weak bulkheads.

. Yea I'm dead set on some aluminum skids. The lip of the stock skid its tucked nicely under the rpm bumper. Can you recconend some quality skids?

I use some duratrax parts on my maxx and they are very durable.

I am using this entire setup on my original 4910 maxx and they have been great. They wear pretty good and even after many good thumpings to them no bending or cracking. I even ran into the tire of my truck at decent speed right on the front center of the truck and no damage. I would highly recommend them, especially for $20 a set. Another thing is you can get them in pretty much any color you want.

Ok I feel really really stupid right now, but my post last night is really misleading. I meant to post a link, but somehow I forgot the main point in my post. The set I was talking about is the RC Raven skid and and bumper set. Here is the link to the website, but they can be picked up on ebay cheaper than their website. You can also get them with just the front and rear skid and the bumpers without the center skid or servo guard even cheaper.

And that makes you sure yur problem is the skids? How about the screws?

If you are doing that with RPM wear plates, aluminum bulks then you are having an issue with wrecking, not design. I honestly feel if you add aluminum skids to solve your problem and you repeat what happened that caused this precisely, you are going to find other serious damage....

Now from what I'm seeing you are having an impact that is allowing your chassis to flex a good deal..... If I am thinking about this in the right way, adding aluminum skids will increase your mass so there will be even more force the next time round. With all that said,,,, I see snapped tabs on the chassis in your future.....

Don't get me wrong,,, Been there done that.... This is coming from the guy who invented the Nitronaught brake mod... (mailbox posts).... One of the biggest things we have to learn with these buggers is when to use our brakes and to remember we have them.....

IT's your truck, but the aluminum skids isn't going to stop 30 mph + crashes...

And man you should be very glad you didn't hit this...

Yea I know it's my driving skills that are lacking. I'm using a tony screw kit, for screws. I'm not blameing the truck. The first time it happened it sheared my screws off in my bulkhead and the skidplate snaps horizontally if your looking at it from the bottom. I just think that the aluminum skids will not snap, they still could though

You are right,,, They won't snap easily, remember though, you hit with a LOT of force.... Those aluminum skids will not absorb any of it,, they will transfer all that force to the screws and the bulks, then,,, the chassis....

Aluminum is great for structural integrity as long as it's not in a place that takes a lot of hits.... Skids.... Probably the most punished part on your TMAXX... That and A-arms...

I bet if you had that crash and had aluminum skids the damage would be much worse....

maybe try Titanium skids? kind of pricey though.... At least if you bend them, they can be bent back.....
