Idle Gap is Maxed, HSN>4.75 turns from Close, LSN>1.75 turns from Close = NO IDLE

Guru's I need help, newbie here...

I'm having an issue with my Revo 3.3. The Idle gap is maxed, which means the idle screw is already maxed(CW) plus with the description on the title, still I couldn't set it to idle, fuel is already spitting. When starting, I have to press the throttle to make the engine run and if released it the engine dies. I already checked and cleaned(twice) the Slipper Clutch and Clutch Shoe/Spring, both are still good. Another thing, it's also hard to start the engine, the engine will run for 1 second then dies(ez start is turning), it's like the engine is having a hard time turning. But when the engine is hot, starting is not a problem. Hope my description helps and I need love. Thanks in advance.

Try setting the HSN at 4. What tuned pipe are you using? And is the air filter clean? And what fuel are you running?

Already set the HSN at 4, same issue. Stock pipe. Clean air filter. Traxxas Top Fuel 20%. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Idle gap should not be maxed. It should be at 0.7-1.0mm open. If the engine will not run at the stock settings then there is a problem with the engine itself. It may be time for disassembly and a thorough cleaning. Every part should be looked at from the gas tank to the pipe. And when it is apart, make sure that the cut-out on the piston and oiler holes on the rod are facing the carb.

I need details on what causes the No Idle issue. I'll check later if I have bad seals/compression. Thanks.

Engines need air, fuel (the right tune, preferably), compression and glow. Remove one and you have a paperweight.

A contaminated engine block can cause a 'No Idle Issue', disassemble the plant completely and work from there.
If you locate any obstruction (size is not important) or mis-installed part (such as the piston as DoubleG pointed out) it must be corrected before the engine will operate in the intended fashion.

    Look what I found!!!
    Piston

    Cooling head

Can I still save the cooling head by cleaning and sanding it? Can't find any reason how it happen, the sleeve is clean, not chips. Maybe a plug. Some own this before me.

I'll be replacing the piston and sleeve, the front bearing leaks air but I don't worry coz there's no oil/fuel passes through it.

Purchase a new engine, you could sand the pits out of the cooling head but you would lose compression and it would probably not run well at all judging by how deep the gashes are.
It looks like a bearing broke apart while running, best just to buy a new engine.

I'm going to replace it. Parts that are looking good are engine block, carb, connecting rod, backplate, crackshaft, starter shaft, exhaust system. All are cleaned, ready to go for ebay or here soon...

I think he's going to sell the components that are still usable.

    That is detonation.

Cause = 1. Usually too lean of a tune or a leak.
    2. High Nitro % and you didn't add a shim to the head so the timing was off and detonation was happening.
    3. Nasty fuel.

But that is definitely detonation..... No doubt about it...

Your cooling head will work, but don't go sanding down those gouges. It will drop the compression maybe to the point of not running right. Also,,, when this happened to my $400.00 truggy engine there was debris in the bearings.... I could only tell this by putting the crank in filling the case with some oil and with only the crankshaft in and the backplate on turning the crankshaft feeling for ay roughness.... I found problems and ended up changing the bearings out.....

Good luck with it. ME, For $105.00 you can get a brand new mill from an Ebay chop shop and be done with it...
