Smile Trx 3.3 piston and sleeve swap, options???

A couple of weeks ago, I bought a s-maxx 3.3 from a guy who said it needed a piston and sleeve, I ended up swapping the piston out from my old trx 3.3 parts motor and used the new sleeve. So basically I just swapped the sleeve out to make a running motor. My question is about break in. What would you guys reccommend for a sleeve swap? Do I have to go through the entire traxxas break in procedure???
P.S. I have idled 1 tank through it, but it requires a lot of idle for it to stay running, what are my options there???
    Thanks

Is the cut-out on the piston facing the carb? So is it a new sleeve and used piston? Where's the new piston? I have swapped a used piston and a sleeve--both from different engines--and it helps to run it easy and a bit rich for a while.

Im not sure, I put it together rather quickly because I was a little excited, is it supposed to face the carb? Also, it is a used piston and a used sleeve, both from different engines, they were just about perfectly sized compared to what they were when the motors gave up, and the other piston I had was cracked and had most of the skirting gone (bought the mOtor as a parts motor hoping for a match able set, and it has worked so far) thanks

Piston cutout & con rod oil hole face the carb, you need to check it. You can pull the header & roll the engine over & if you see no cutout the piston is in right.

    Look out for the tree/crunch!

okay, i figured it out. my piston and rod were in backwards.
i also have another piston and rod that ended up breaking that the cutout and oil-holes were on different sides. if you have an engine running like that is it going to die extremely prematurely?
thanks again guys for your help

Yes, if the oil hole and the piston cutout do not face the front you will have problems tuning and your engine will not last for certain..... They both need to face the flywheel.

AS far as using an old piston and a new sleeve.... Yup, do the Traxxas break in. Can't go wrong by doing so.... The piston and the sleeve have to wear themselves into each other for a perfect fit.... Plus it needs to loosen up the sleeve a little bit and go through the heat cycling part of break in.
