Fastest possible gearing option for rustler w/ castle 1717

I have decided to buy a rustler after having my buddy run all over my xo-1 with his rustler simply because his rustler is easier to handle on two wheels than my xo1 on four. I am looking to get the highest top end just occasionally using my xo1 motor and esc. Any suggestions for gearing with purchase links would be apreciated.

Btw his rustler had stock motor/esc just geared up. Also had wheely bar and anaconda tires. Running up to 70 he was able to go full throttle almost instantly while I had to slowly get up to speed or the xo1 will lift and lose traction.

Well, doing speedruns with rustler to 70 real mph is not really that easy or safe I would say. First you need to lower it, and add weight in front to prevent blow over after 55-60. Search youtube and you may get tips on gearing.

A xo1 will always be better then a rustler at high speeds because the xo1 is designed for speeds over 70 mph...

To build a solid rustler with 1/8 scale motor for 100+ mph I would say it costs around 1000 dollars at least. To get a rustler stable at those speeds you need street tyres (jaco, grp, ipanema) and a gyro to keep it straight.

He is actually running his rustler with a custom front bumper. I like the option he has to run his rustler off road I am in the process of gearing my xo1 to top out at about 80 it may be made to handle 100 plus but it doesn't handle it well. I've had mine lift 3 feet off the ground at 100+. Looked like a formula car.

Why dont you look in the xo1 section, there are many tips for keeping the xo1 on the ground.

If you feel the XO-1 is hard to drive or does not handle the speed well I think you will be very disappointed with a Rustler with an XO-1 power system in it.

My Rustler with weight on front , Anacondas and lowered with an vented buggy body is a handful after 50 . I have never been able to "pin it" from a stop without some cool looking wheelies/backflips . Can't picture it handling those speeds better than a Xo-1 . If that is the route you want you may want to look into the mod 1 gearing choices ( I believe a 4x4 slipper in the 50-56 tooth range and HPI pinions in the 30-34 (32p) would work for you )

Yeah, as Kansei says, the rustler cant be compared to the xo1 regarding high speed stability. I wouldnt even want to run 100 mph with the rustler, far to risky. 65-70 is a good speed and can be achieved with some mods.

To me the 100 mph rustlers are only good to put out records. Theres also differance between a rustler with 540/550 motor, and 1/8 scale motors like the 2200kv or 1717 ones.

But sure, if you dont want the xo1 any more and want to do a truck with street application, then go ahead. But you will be disapointed with the handling compared to the xo1 I believe. With weights, lowering mod, and gyro, the rustler can how ever be pretty decent on the straights. You can use some of the xo1 parts like the motor and esc, wheels, shocks, radio and reciever....just to bad you bought the xo1 to beginn with if you are loosing interest to a 10 year old truck.

If you choose Mod1, you can buy >1:1 spur/pinion gearing. That's easy speed...no need to worry if the 1717 can turn it, only whether you can drive it

IMO a bandit body with velcro around the edges would be the best bet for speed on a rustler, the stocker is just too big and catches way too much air. Maybe you need to lower your xo1 further if it is lifting up, my rustler will easily lift up on 2s with high gearing and will flip really easily not even getting up to 40-45 mph.

The bandit may be good but the low front makes it hard to put weights on front. I still believe you need weight if running 100 mph, even with a bandit body. Or you could run weight on the front bumper, not that neat though.

I use a body for a buggy as a speed run body - it is drilled for air venting and open in back ,sometimes I will mount the wing also . Weights will still fit in front of tower . I think the cheaper/easier way to triple digits is the Xo-1 .
