260 F safe running temp? I heard not to run over 270 F.

I was driving my tmaxx around today and i've been checking the temps every few passes with a temp gun and right on the plug it read 260 degrees. Is this safe? Or should i stop running and let it cool down if it gets that hot. It was about 80 degrees out today. What can i do to keep it running cool like around 230 F?

Tune for performance and smoke and use temps as a tool. If you keep monitoring the temps you'll go crazy. You could richen it up a hair if you want.

To keep it running cooler you'll most likely have to richen it up a little. You could also try a better fuel like Byron's, if you're not using good fuel already. Definetly tune for performance, and always go rich when in doubt.

So basically no matter what the temp is, as long as the engine is operating smoothly temperature isn't an major issue to worry about?

Your engine will be within a range of 250-270 tuned right. If you are running over 290 and in the 300 range and it's tuned right or can't get it richened up correctly then you need to worry. On 96 degree days here my 2.5R pushes 270 and runs like a champ. I do run Byron's gen 2 33% fuel as well and a medium plug.

Not true...you need to keep a watchful eye on your engine temps.... even if there is a trail of blue smoke. One day I ran my 4-tec 3.3 and ran a couple high speed passes and brought it back to me and checked the temp and it said 290 degrees. It still had a nice trail of smoke but my tune was obviously off a lil...that and I found that I had a crack under my HSN on the carb body causing an air leak which also made it difficult to keep an even idle. Its very important to make sure that you have a good tune and watch those temps. Your best bet is to put the HSN and LSN back to factory settings and go from there. If you dont already know what the factory settings are... they are 4 full turns counter clockwise from fully closed for the HSN and flush with the inner ring on the LSN and a 1mm gap for the idle screw.

i've had mine running awesome with nice blue smoke trail and checked temps and been over 300 i check temps frequently until i'm comfortable with my tune so if it is high it's only for a short time. i'm thinking of switching to odonnels because my other nitro will not work with traxxas it allows too much oil to accumulate on the owb and i don't want to have to buy 2 types of fuel.
i always put after run oil after i'm done for the day just incase i don't get to run them for a couple of days.

I run Byron's gen 2 20% and 30% mixed 50/50. It's 25% nitro and 11.5% oil. My engines rarely ever run over 250°, even on the hottest, most humid day. You're saying that a proper tune is between 250-270, and that is incorrect. A proper tune is when the engine runs awesome, period.....For example: A perfectly tuned engine can run 200° on a cold day, or 260° on a hot day.
