    Why the beeping noise?

When you initiate power by pulling the controller trigger there is a continuous beep. Why does it do this? i bpught my summit used and it has always done this. Is it suppose to?

wildironman is correct, it is the motor that makes the tone at the direction of the ESC.
TBH, I don't know WHY it does it, but it is normal.

Thanks to both of you. I figured it was normal because I couldn't find any issue with it. But I also couldn't figure out what was causing and curiosity finally got the best of me. Thanks again.

If your talking about the high-pitched electric whining sound, that's actually the switching sound the ESC makes as it sends pulses of off/on to the motor. It only makes those sounds when you are somewhere between full-on and full-off. Cordless variable speed drills make the same high-pitched whine, as that is how the slower rotation speeds are achieved.

great explanation. And now that you mention it a cordless drill does make that sound. Guess I never paid attention to it before. Thanks.

hmm... interesting - so is it the ESC or motor then?

since most videos had music in them I had to listen to quite a few before I found a few that had the same noise as normal.

    Jungletreker,

The noise is probably coming from both to some extent!! I work in an industry that uses a lot of different types of motors and variable speed drives. Sometimes the drive and motor are as much as 50 feet apart. Many drives and motors (DC, AC, and brushless), ring or emit a tone that varies with speed. Just like jolynsbass said, you usually hear it when the motor is running less than full speed. My Summit sounds much more like a drill since the Dewalt install.

It's really a much more efficient way to control speed than the old days.

It comes from the motor. Sound cannot be made without movement. Nothing on the ESC (save a fan) should move or vibrate.
    Any arguments?

I will argue - though not to say that your incorrect about the motor making the squealing/whining noise. I'll simply say that solid state electronic devices *can* make noise, though they technically have no moving parts. If you are into silent PC computing at all, you may have heard of spcr.com, where they do reviews of power supplies, and other pc components. Even many fanless models will still produce audible noise from various electronic components squealing or otherwise making noise.

In this case - it does indeed seem to be the motor making the noise. I just now used the simple "put your ear to each and see where it's coming from" test... Sorry for the earlier misinformation!

If you want to argue, fine. But the above information is irrelevant since if your ESC is acting like one of the components you reference, you've got big troubles.
