    3.3 Fuel around glow plug?

I am on about fifth or six tank of fuel after breaking in the motor.Last week it was running very very good. 3 seconds on the pinch test, and running around 265 with the body on. Yesterday It was running like CRAP!

Would not shift into second, very high pitch and idled high. Today I noticed there was fuel coming up from under the glow plug. I changed glow plug, and still have fuel around the glow plug.

It will now shift into second, and will Idle decently enough, however about fifty percent of the time it stutters when shifting into second.

Could something be cracked? The glow plug screws in very nicely and seats itself pretty good. I go until just snug. I turn until it stops without much force.

Any suggestions as what it might be? It got to 290 one time when I put the new peterbuilt body on, and that is the only time it ever ran that hot and I did not run it very long even then.

Fuel should not be coming from the glow plug hole. You either need to tighten it up or you have stripped threads. Your loosing compression. Which is making it run bad.. Try tightening it and if fuel is still coming out you will need a new cooling head

Are you using the proper glow plug for the fuel that you are running in it? Low nitro content = Medium/Hot plug ... High nitro content = Cold/Medium plug

Part #3232x super duty (long-medium) is what it says on the package.

I do not understand hot or cold allowing fuel to come up from Glowplug. Then again I am a newb.

Does the glow plug tighten up good? Im betting on stripped threads.

Never had it happen to me, but I have heard that the washer has a bevel on it which needs to be positioned on the plug in a certain way. If you are tightening it snug and it is stopping when tight, then I cant see it being the threads stripping.

How much fuel are we talking about coming up from under the plug??

Is the glow plug washer on right? They are designed to be installed with the concave side facing down

Yes the plug snugs up really tight. It does not seem stripped.

Its enough to puddle up inside the head.

I pulled the plug out and replaced it and the washer. Gonna give it a try and see what happens. This time I snugged it really good.

Either way plugs aside you have fuel coming out so it's an air leak, with extra air entering the engine, leaning it out wich would explain the higher than normal temps, in my theory anyways. You might be able to use loctite on the glow plug to get a good seal. But I'd ask one of the pros first cuz it might have some gunk or harsh chemicals that could damage.

Maybe you have some fuel spilling out when you are removing the plug? Seems pretty wierd to me that you have fuel coming out when you have snugged the plug in properly. Could be that your motor is slightly flooded when you remove the plug, due to it being rich from break in?

I wouldn't use loctite on the plug. Once dried you dont want the loctite entering into your motor....you dont want anything foreign in the motor.

If I was you, I would try a hot plug in there and see if that makes a difference.

Other thing is, when you pulled the plug out, was there alot of fuel on it? I made the mistake of using too cold of a plug when I first got my maxx, but was soon told to go hotter on the plug. Lower % nitro does not burn as hot and has a lower flash point than the higher % nitro and therefore requires a hotter ignition source ie:Hot plug.

If you have it puddling, then you may want to take a look to see if the head is cracked. Haven't heard if it happening so you may want to do a leak test.
