    Aluminum trans case review.

Last week I installed an aluminum trans case mostly to deal with motor temps getting over 160 before my bat was at its cutoff. Temps were getting to 170-180 then I would take a break and top off the bat. Ran it today at the track on carpet. 3cell 4000ma /4250kv 10.5 turn revtech motor/ MMP/ 16 pinion/ 90 spur. Ran the bat to its cutoff and was getting between 116 and 120. So now I'm thinking 19 pinion and check what I get. If its good the aluminum case made me faster as well.

I acts like a big heat sink so I thought Id give it a try. Seems to be working better than expected.

If you are saving 50°, then it sure is working!
    Which trans is it?
My HR full laum trans saves about 30...

The cool thing about my FLM aluminum trans cases is this: after a hard run you can feel the heat from the motor in the transmission case. This is a pretty un-scientific method but it's the O.G. method. Seriously though, you can feel heat in the transmission case near the motor which means it does act like a giant heat sink as Cherry and rag6 mention above. The trans case away from the motor is cool. Next time I made a long run I'll actually do a before and after with the heat gun.

The best part is that it allows you to gear up for faster speed while still keeping your temps in a good range!
The harder I bash, the more I can upgrade.

This is also a good point. I run 23/86 setup on my alu trans slash while only 19/86 in my stockers plastic trans case slash. It does make a difference.

Alloy transmission case makes a huge difference in temps - I ran 2 packs back to back wide open throttle bashing in a gravel pit( third pack was stopped with a broken axle) and the trans and motor were easily touchable only warm to the touch . This with 25/86 gearing . Also the mounting for the rear tower is much more solid and secure with alloy case - another plus for it ( had screws pull out of plastic case bashing in a skatepark )

I got integy. The 50 dollar forged billet one. Best thing Ive done so far for performance. Was ripping it at the track today and was running so cool on 3cell I'm gonna go up to a 19 pinion for next time. This is definitely something worth doing.

They do bolt up but I don't use it because one side on the bottom doesn't have a bolt holding it and when it pops out of place it gets caught in the carpet literally stopping me dead in my tracks. RPM has a good one I want that has 4 points where it bolt up so that's one of my next things.

Theres no doubt they help hinder hi heat. Plus they look trick. The flm has all the room in the world to add an actual motor heatsink not to mention different susp arm angle options by ordering different degree arm mounts or reversing the ones that were ordered with the trans. Also doesn't warp after time like my stocker did.
