Motors go bad for a reason.

    Check your mesh.

If you are off road, especially grass, go down a gear size and never use the 23t pinion. If you are using heavier wheels/tires or 1/8 scales you will need to go down a few teeth on your pinion.

Check your bearings. Since winter is over and I bet you ran out in the snow/rain and didn't wd40 your shafts/hubs they might be siezing up. It doesn't take much rust/crud to wreck the outer shafts and bearings(experience.)

Check your slipper clutch and make sure your pads are not scorched(real shiny.) If they are hit them with an emery board or sand paper. You may want to also replace the spring.

If none of that seems to help, it is time to crack open your tranny and clean it out and check those bearings.

Now that I think about it, having been on here for 42 years, some motors are just bad.

Did you break in your new motor before you put it in?

Wet break in process: Take your motor out and hook a C battery up to it and put the motor in a cup of water. Once the battery is dead repeat the process with new water if it has stuff in it and a new battery.

Dry break-in process: Mount motor and leave the pinion gear off. Connect battery and power on transmitter and esc. Turn the throttle trim all the way forward and dial back a little. Run this for at least 15 minutes.

I always preferred the wet method since the fans would force out any debris that was in there.

Those traxxas 12t motor don't have a very high tolerence. You could buy 10 at the same time and they would all be different. You could always get a 15t monster from an old brushed emaxx and try that out. My nephew was burning through 12t's and I gave him all my old emaxx motors(I don't know why I had so many) and he is still using the first one he put in it a year ago.

I can ask if still has them and mail you one. He is over at my house right now, so I will ask him when I get home from work.

Call Traxxas customer service, if it is that new you have a good chance for some courteous help
Make sure to check wheel bearings as well just in case you have one dragging along.

For the record, Traxxas does not recommend the water break in method:

It is a racer trick because they really don't care about replacing motors so long as they get more speed and power for their race. Traxxas does not recommend it.
Further, the recommended break in process is as follows:

LOL a bad bearing in the trans will cause a motor to overheat. Just replace every bearing on the car with fresh ones and keep the old good ones for backup in your tool box.

If the bearings can be heard there bad. If there dry from no more grease they can spin just fine but heat up and drag or seize.

the disk in the slipper can be bended and may cause the spur to be inclined, a little bent and BAM! noise
