Check out the FlySky GT2 or GT3b. The GT2 is about $20 and the GT3 has an lcd screen for about $40. I have 2 GT2s, additional receivers are only $7 too

I recently picked up the $60 Tower Hobbies 224 for my Monster Jam. Its nothing fancy and the transmitter has a cheap feel to it, but honestly it was a good buy and works great. Theres absolutely nothing fancy about this transmitter/receiver combo. It has the standard nobs to adjust your steering and throttle trim. One of the cool things about the receiver is that there is no external antenna. Its built into the receiver. I was a little worried about range, but i havent run into any issues. And no problem with setup. I removed my original AM receiver and had this one installed and working in about 15 minutes.

    Hope this helps.

Hey guys i was looking to get this for my Ken Block brushed edition and i just want to know if my stock traxxas servo will work with it, and if i need some special battery or servo to operate the reciever, also how many batteries does the radio take?

Yes, the traxxas servo will work with it, any servo should. You do not need special batteries or servos or anything, you just plug n play. The remote takes 8 AA batteries.

I also have a couple flysky radios and the receiver is powered by the Lipo battery. I highly recommend those radios.

But you also can't rule out the traxxas 2.4 radio. Find em here on the market place or ebay.

Neither of my GT3b's came with batteries. You can upgrade it to accept a 3s lipo though.

These radios are like any other brand.. aa batteries in the transmitter, receiver powered by the big battery. There is probably the option of putting rechargable batteries in the transmitter bit I haven't done it.

So what's wrong with the Traxxas 2.4ghz? You can pick them up off the marketplace for about 50 or even ebay if they dont have any in the market. I got mine for 50 and I have not had one single problem with it.

if you can add some $20 or even less, you can get better quality than flysky radios.

I like my 2.4 TQ just fine for bashing. For racing I prefer one with a display like the more expensive flysky, or the futaba's.

Nothing is wrong with the TQ 2.4, nothing wrong with the gt2 either, they both do the same thing, but some of us don't have the extra $30 lying around to get the trx setup and dont mind a cheap option.

I ordered my gt2 through hk it was like $18.

As far as the tower 224, don't waste your money it is incredibly overpriced get the Trx instead if you don't want a cheapie.

There is one fact about the traxxas remote that I did like hands down better than the flysky. The fact that they only take 4 AAs instead of 8.

That's a very good point. AA batteries add up over time.

True enough, but a good set of rechargeables will take care of that either way.

Still, twice the batteries mean twice the weight, and twice the batteries you have to recharge.

A small 3s LiPo weighs less than 4 AA cells. If you want to reduce weight in the FlySky radios, remove the battery tray and add a battery plug to the remaining leads. The gt3-b has an inefficient voltage regulator and will go through batteries fast. If you're comfortable de-soldering and soldering on a PCB, then spending ~$1 on a new 5V regulator is worth it. Otherwise, rechargeable batteries are a must IMHO. The gt2 doesn't suffer from this issue.

I've used my GT2 more than the 3 so I haven't noticed a lot of battery use on the GT3, but I figured a little more was due to the display.

Every controller has pros and cons, weight and number of batteries doesn't matter to me. I am not running a marathon with my controller. Lots of good ideas out there for all cashflow situations.

O.G.; It's definitely the regulator. Since updating my firmware and installing the regulator, I now have my back light set to never turn off and I still get more than twice the battery life. The stock regulator is well known to be a very inefficient component.

I certainly agree with this statement. I have a couple flysky's, a couple 2.4 futaba's and one traxxas 2.4, and they all do their intended jobs very well.
