thinkin about the esc fan. just wondering if its worth buying. ive heard of it breaking easily because of just a little dirt so it sounds like its only good for the street. anyone have this on there vxl esc? how well does it work?

All of the racers at my track that still run their VXL systems have the esc fan installed. Granted I race indoors on a rubber track so dirt is a non issue.

Well, it depends, you can do as i did, i bought a 6v rc fan 30x30 cm, and changed the male connector to female. The cost was like 5 dollars for everything. How ever you need to solder, and also make some kind of mounting, which i havent figured out yet. I doesnt look as nice as the traxxas one, but as effective i guess.

I recommend some kind of fan anyway to the esc.

I have one on my Rusty and Slash. They work great and I put them through dirt and gravel. They lowered my esc temps by around 25*.

nice. ive also heard of the motor running better with the esc being a little cooler. is this true or is it just to keep the esc from overheating?

None that you'll notice. I'd say maybe a minute or two. It only pulls like 200 mah. I got a 9.6 5000 mah and it runs for 45 minutes.

Either way, I'm not gonna cry over a few minutes when it keeps my temp under 100* at all times.

One guy lost 5 minutes, another guy lost 200mah... How do you actually know how much it draws? Did you measure it?

I guess the bigger picture is: if the fan saves your esc then it was worth the small amount of amperage draw.

I also have a fan on 2 of my esc's and haven't really noticed much difference in run times.

my traxxas fan seems to have a bad bearing or something. It makes a bunch of noise on start-up, like the bearings are shot and then finds a sweet spot and quiets down and moves air. Gonna take it apart and see if something is loose. Other then that its gotten an A+ from me

Considering the fan will probably outlast the ESC and will be near useless if they make a smart decision of getting a programmable and reliable esc instead.

I speak from experience, no hate. I've just gotten a bit frustrated after 2 decide to take a crap on me with stock gearing and a VXL motor last year.

yeah when you get the fan you should try some like small hole chicken wire on top of the esc to keep most debris from getting in

I saw it on another forum. I was trying to say run time loss was minimal to non-existant and any loss is worth the cooler temps.
