    First $200 To Spend??

Ok so I just got a brand new STOCK 1/10 2WD Slash. What is the first $200 that I should spend on it?

I have been out of the R/C stuff for a while now so I am clueless to the new items.

This car will be used for a long term writeup/coverage so the stock Robby Gordon Speed Energy body will stay as thats part of it.

Is it brushless? If not, that should take up the first $120 bucks. Then you'll need tires to use all that power, about another $50 for a full set with wheels. Then some aluminum castor blocks, aluminum shock caps, RPM A-arms, and you gotta do an aftermarket body. I'd play with it stock first and see if anything breaks.

    first - brushless system - vxl-3s/velineon
    second - lipo and charger
third - some smaller RPM parts, front skid plate is a must to keep the bellcranks from popping out of the chassis. bumpers, etc.
It depends on what you plan to do with it next. Bash or race? Bash or bash/racs, I'd say get some big bore shocks. That's my next purchase. Just run it stock and replace parts when they break.

Durability all depends on how you use it. If your like me then you will be buying a ton of upgrades because you will be breaking something every time you go out and run it. The faster you go the more you will be breaking just how it is. And oh ya its more fun when your fast. Its a vicious cycle of fun and spending money.

    In that case...

Make sure to break in the motor. Get a good lipo/ charger. Alum c-blocks and shock caps. Replace any broken plastic parts with rpm, and that $200 will last a while. May never need to use it all unless you are going through motors.

The slash is already very durable, maybe the most on the market. It is hard to break things with the brushed motor in there. The most expensive durability issue with that model, is that the motors can wear out quickly if they are not properly maintained. Seriously, you should spend some of that money on extra batteries

SPC Racing has a $30 lipo that will be a perfect match for the truck now, and can keep up when and if you decide to go brushless. Its the 5000 mah 25c 2s.

Check out the Thunder AC6 charger. It's a good all-around balance charger and inexpensive. Also, the site that sells it has a huge selection of lipos (Sky Lipo, GensAce, Blue Lipo) and don't forget to get a $5 charging bag when you're there. You can get all set up on that one site and save on shipping.

And another suggestion if you stay with the stock shock bodies, look into the RPM two stage shock pistons. They let the shock rebound faster after compression. That improves performance for only $7.

Sounds like you're not building a dedicated racer? For tires you might like the Proline Badlands or Gladiators.

$200........for less you could take the stocker back and upgrade to the VXL model and have enough left for your charger and Lipo I think

upgrade as you break. rpm parts in my opinion are better than any aluminum part. when you get bored with the speed and power you have now then you can invested in vxl/velineon setup which wont cost that much if you send in your old stuff.

get the power up upgrade , send in your motor and speed control and get the velineon and vxl3s for half off.......
I got the same 5803 truck , and my first buy was (since youre talking about durability) the velineon motor and vxl3s , because you must clean the brushes on the titan motor, as soon as that happenned i didnt even bother to clean or oil anything. I went to Pegasus and got the upgrade. Now i dont need anything . get the onyx235 charger and youll be about twenty dollars short of a good lipo 2s battery. Trust me , get the velineon motor , the onyx235 and a 5800 mah lipo battery. Youll be short on cash but you ll have two batteries and all you got to do is not run on the streets because it will peel all the rubber out of your tires.
Here is my slash with the velineon motor and the spare spur and pinion gear that comes in the box 23/86.

I think that using the power up program, you can get the velineon system for $135. I have the onyx 235 charger and I like it. It's easy to use, easy to read, has a screen to tell you input volts, mahs, and charge time, stays cool while charging, and charges a pack fairly quickly.

imax b6 ac charger has been great to me and others that have it. You can get it for $35-40 on ebay. Charges lipos and Nimh and goes up to 5 amps.

Ok so far I purchased a SPC 5000 mah 25c 2s, Traxxas Big Bore shocks, RPM Skid plates, front, rear, side bumpers.

The Onyx 235 is about twice as much as the Thunder AC6. Whats the difference? Charge times approx for that battery I got?

The AC6 should balance charge that in about 60-70 minutes. Faster if you don't balance. Some say you don't need to balance everytime.

Alright I ordered the AC6 Charger. I think I will drive the truck a few times with the lipo and then upgrade to the BL with the Traxxas program since its $130 if you do it that way.

Anything else I should upgrade ASAP? Stock wheels/tires ok for now?

stock wheels and tires are ok for now. once you go brushless then you can think about wheels and tires. ive never broke wheels or tires so if they arent bald then you can save a little money and run them for a little while. which stock tires do you have?

If you read what comes with that SPC battery you bought it says balance charge every time.

Agreed. Balancing everytime is supposed to maximize the life of the battery. It's a good habit, too, because if you get into balancing every other time then pretty soon it'll be two fast charges and a balance. Then you get another battery and you can't keep track of when you balanced THIS one last, and then you're burning down the house. Don't burn down the house. Get Direct TV.
