    Cobra's Merv

Here are some pics of my current setup. I've got some new foams on the way. As you can see, these are nearly worn down. Things fit very well under the Slipstream body. The front body posts are on the lowest setting and the rear are on the next to highest setting. I've only been using my foams and hence driving on road lately since it's so warm in TX. I find this car to be best on road.

They are HPI2196 with custom foams by the user 'gone banana' on rctech.net and this forum.

Nice car. If you want to decrease the wear of the foams, I would at least decrease the toe in and out.

The motor is a Neu 1110-1y. Not sure why they come with the open can. The foams lasted a good few months with some hard abuse.

that neu motor is a direct fit to the VXL 1/16 motor mount?

the neu motor shaft as D form? , right?
    If not...

dremel it? to make it a D?

can you post pictures of the motor in the mount and the shaft where the pinion sits?

    thanks for sharing photos!

Woah, she sits nice and low. The name Asphalt Fighter comes to mind. Ogling this fine car.

Like your battery wire routing, might try that myself.

The motor is a direct fit to the stock VXL mount, but the shaft comes completely round, so I had to Dremel a flat spot onto it for the pinion grub screw. I would post pics, but I feel that what I described is not hard to imagine.

I've since decreased the amount of toe-in for the rear, but the front is as close to zero toe-out as I could get. I've been playing with the settings on my MMP to minimize heat and wheelying (i hate wheelying all the time!) and so far, for 2s on 25/45 gearing with the dirt hawgs, I have 30% brake power and 70% punch control.

ok, for the direct mount! And about the dremel tool, i guess you used the stone wheel. Ok, but how you have secured the shaft? on a vice? how? because the round shaft spins like a rocket and i dont see how to dremel it!

only on a vice... maybe grabed by the edge of the shaft and the motor can out the vice and dremel it to make a D!

When got the time... for a gear pinion change... make that picture! No speed woories!

where did you buyed that neu, from their website?
and how is it compared to the stock one? ... a little better? hein?more power in torque form.. .and about speed? Or just placebo effect?

    ok, thanks!

I got my neu from soaringusa.com. It's a 4-pole and is far more efficient than the stock motor. It's hot here in TX and earlier today I ran 2s on Dirt Hawgs with 26/45 gearing and saw temps of about 150-160 after 25 minutes of street running. It's about as powerful as my Castle 5700kv 4-pole was, but in the form of a 380-sized can. It's safe to say that it's much better than the stock motor.

I dremel'd the shaft while it was still on the motor. The magnets are strong, so the shaft didn't spin freely. I covered the front of the motor with electrical tape so that the metal shavings wouldn't get into the bearings. The shaft also had to be cut down at first.

I would be interested what would happen if you set the wheelie bar straight down (so it wont wheelie) then nail it at over 50 to see what happens

With foams so small in diameter, it doesn't wheelie at high speeds. It's hard to tell when it loses traction with the foams going in a straight line. Everyone should try some foams!

Thats indeed the biggest stuff with speed hawgs the acceleration
they spin like crazzy the first few yards and i found out that it cost a lot of power which you lose with it

    so decided to go foam

will let you know hen i get them Cobra!!!

It's the Mamba Max Pro ESC with the fan removed. I'm not sure how much I had to cut the shaft. I just compared the length to the stock motor shaft and went from there. I used a Dremel cutting wheel to shorten the shaft then a Dremel grinding stone to flatten part of it.

Great project man, I like the vent's in the front and back.. might steal that from you lol.. But I have to agree with Mossie after you invest all this money into the MERV your like dag I could bought xy and z BUT look at it like this, where would be the fun in that? I don't think ima ever get an XO1 but I might get a Big E Revo later on down the road and make it go faster than the XO1 lol... It's a lot more fun building something unique and custom instead of just beeing apart of the crowd ya know? Same reason I love this build, never seen this motor in anybody eles's kit.. but EVERYONE has a castle creations lol...
Whatever I just said.. I'm probably wrong..

The car is actually kind of torn apart already, as I took the receiver/transmitter and used it for my Vorza. Dude, 1/8 E-buggy is the way to go!
I have a XSTAR/Quik-100A ESC. Its rated for 100A continous, 17V max, that should be OK for that NEU. Even my 60A EZRun clone might be sufficent? I would pass on the MMP for the moment.
I'm dont want to go much faster, but run cooler.

The motor mount is HR part VXS1801 right?
I would not need it, i have an Integy and a few stockers. But HR is always tempting for me.

I know about the temptation of a bigger car. For me its the Stampede 4x4 atm. But, like you, i already put too much in the MERV and are a bit on a budget/ try to stay reasonable (We all know its not really possible in this hobby).

Plus i live in a big city and are often space constrained. The MERV is perfect here. Saddly I have not the right terrain/space for a bigger car. And i love that i can put the MERV in backpack easily and head out.

Thanks for checking out the shipping thingy.
