    Battery run times

Hey guys, Im new to the electric scene. I just decided on getting the Stampede 4x4 to run when I cant run my Nitros. What battery would be good for long run times, decent power and reasonably priced? Obviously it will be a lipo battery, but after that I know "zero" about electrics. Thanks for the help.

Well, there is already a ton of info on here about Lipo's. If you want a decent run time and good power get a 6000mAh or higher and 30c or higher. Though a 20c on an 8200mAh battery should be fine. Good name brands are listed all over the forum but SPC, Gens Ace etc are good. Make sure you have the battery extender or buy batteries that fit. Again, tons of threads here about that already.

I get 25-30 minutes on a 5000mah 30C Sky lipo hardcase. It fits great with the battery extender. Run time will vary with terrain and how hard you run the truck.

Stock NiMh 3000mAH I get roughly 17min out of it, got another 3300mAH that gets 20 min or so.
That's not 100% throttle all the time either, mostly grass with some pavement.

Thanks guys. I did search the "tons of info" but they rarely talked about price and run times. Thank you Snowfighter, Ill look into the SPC if it is reasonably priced.

Well, according to Traxxas' rule #11 we are not really supposed to link to websites based on price. SPC is definitely a good value. I do a LOT of research before I buy anything and that is what I wound up with. They are not the cheapest, but do you REALLY want to trust your $400+ truck to a cheap battery that might catch on fire at any given second? lol a bit of an exaggeration but not too far off the mark.

You can also look into joining the Super Saver Club at TowerHobbies to save even more money. Shop Ebay if you are comfortable with that. Buying direct from SPC is good as well. They even have sales on their website sometimes. They just had some 8200mAh ones on sale a few days back.

Oh, and one more thing. If you really know "zero" about electrics please please please take the time to read the owner's manual on your batteries AND your charger. Make sure you have NO questions when start charging and storing your Lipo batteries. Get a temp gun (you most likely already have one if you are running Nitro's anyway). Do you already have a charger? If not there are some threads on that already, or if you are confused about them, let us know and we directly reply to you.

Lol, the dark side....NEVER!!! I have a charger that will do lipos. I didnt want a link to any sites, just an idea of what these batteries are going to run me. I guess I shouldnt say i know zero about electrics, but not not enough to be helpfull. Ive been racing nitro for almost 10 years but decided on the Stampede for my boy and I to run in the rain, snow, and at night when I cant run my Revo. Not that I cant afford good batteries, just didnt want a pile of cash in a mud truck lol.

Ok, thanks for the info. Just be aware that Lipo's are NOT waterproof. You can take some measures to make them more water resistant. Wrap them in tape, dip them in liquid tape or other methods. The batteries should run you around $40-$60 per battery for some good 6000mAh batteries. This Battery fits almost perfectly in the battery tray. It will run for around 30~50 minutes depending on your driving style. Hard case are a lot more durable so that is why I recommend them.

Unfortunately that pack is out of stock until June. It seems a lot of places are low on packs. Must be a lipo shortage or something. Lipos are waterproof because they are sealed batteries. Water could cause premature corrosion of the connectors inside, but that would still take years. Just stay away from salt water.

    I wouldn't know. I can't get through a 2 or 3 cell lipo without breaking something. haha
