Novak sensored motor thread! sticky!

lets get a sticky of whos running a novak sensored motor on a vxl....
i am currently running a 4.5 550 ballistic and a 8.5 540 on a vxl....both rock!
550 gearing is 18t and 8.5 is 21 and is the same....but i think water suck with both...i fried 2 sensors with snow...lol

I dont think it can get deleted, because Traxxas doesnt make a sensored motor, but they offer the option. I hope that means they are thinking about a WATERPROOF sensored motor option!
i am running many troubles with a 4.5 novak but not too much with a 8.5 smaller 540 novak....with the wire plugged in.....but all my sensored motors work unplugged!

I'm just curious what traxxas motor has the option of a sensor. I don't race so I don't need a sensor but I have a custom trophy truck that my friend might give me a t8 motor for. My friend used to run a sensored novak aand never had the best ofluck with it.

Traxxas dont make sensored motors

No reason why any sensored motor wont run in sensorless mode, just defeats the purpose

my novak 4.5 550 work fine never gave me any problem yet.

4.5 motors are power hogs....try the same setups on 2200kv motors....there is a difference

this thread doesnt apply to a majority of us, and will most likely end up not stickied. Plus Traxxas leans towards Castle Creations.

if you run a mmp and run the smart sense i believe the name is right you get the best of both worlds i have that set up now novak 4.5 with the mmp and its on smart sense starts the car sensored then switches to sensorless and lets the esc determine timing•SmartSense uses the motor sensors to start the motor and then it switches over to Castle’s ultra powerful and efficient dynamic sensorless mode which boosts motor efficiency. Simply put, you’ll get more power and less heat from your motor.
