    Revo Melting through rear wheels

    Having some trouble on my revo. I have just melted through another set of rear wheels for my revo. I don't know why they are getting so hot and melting off. I have the 14mm hubs but I haven't had a problem with them until now?

    I did just install the RPM True Track a-arm conversion to my revo. I would have thought that this would help with the heat (larger bearings). My wheels were tight. they were not slipping.

    If you’re stripping/melting the wheel and/or wheel hex the wheel/nut simply came loose while you were running it.
    The nylock nuts do wear out when removed and installed over time. Probably time to replace the wheel nuts or upgrade to the 17mm hex adaptors.
    No slipper/tall gearing/power = broken parts.

    Ok I'll snap some this afternoon...but the nut on the outside melted the wheel and pulled through the wheel so the nut is still tight on the truck but the wheel came off. I tightened them as much as I could they were not loose? not sure where the heat could be coming from?

    Too tight perhaps causing the bearings not to move freely. I learned a long time back that when using the serrated locking nuts that you don't need to tighten them down much. Just enough to feel maybe two or 3 clicks on the teeth.

    I don't really know what would be causing that much friction to melt plastic like that and you said you changed to RPM true track that should have stopped it with new bearings so I'm thinking it must be something else. Are you still using plastic hexes? I'm thinking that maybe the hexes are rubbing against the bearing causing the friction. Is it happening on both sides?

    I have to agree with fallonguy,
    I find it Very doubtful the heat is coming from the wheel bearings unless the bearings are completely shot or the hex pin is bent and is causing lateral pressure on the bearings.
    If it were the bearings, it should be very easy to tell.

    In order to melt the wheel and allow the nut to pull through the wheel, the bearing would have to transfer the heat to the stub axle, wheel hex and wheel. If it were hot enough to melt the wheel it would have also melted the hex (if plastic).

    I’ve seen it happen on many occasions when someone did not realize the hex/wheel stripped because the nut became loose or the wheel or hex was close to stripping anyway and continued to run the truck and the wheel melted to the point that the nut pulled through.
    If you have a standard diff once the wheel or hex stripped you would loose drive to the opposite wheel and the stub axle with the stripped hex will spin 2X faster inside of the wheel than it normally would due to the diff diffing out causing major heat at the wheel and hex.
    No slipper/tall gearing/power = broken parts.

    ok the hexes are stripping out. they are getting hot and melting into the wheel. I just ran my truck and I cannot get the hexes out they are melted to the wheel. how do I stop that? I have my last set of wheels on there now.

    Replace the hexes maybe even switch to aluminum hexes and make sure the nuts are tight and don't loosen up when driven. I would even think about switch to 17mm hexes and wheels all the way around.

    I have had a few hexes melt into my rim. I switched to alum. hexes and haven't had that problem again. But also don't tighten the nuts as tight as you can get them, just get them snug.
