Is the motor cooling fan a gimmick?

I have installed the CC blower on my motor to help keep the temps down but I'm wondering if it's really just a gimmick. The flow rate from the fan seems low and is only covers a small area over the motor. Has any one with a temperature gun done measurements with and without the motor fan to see if really makes a difference. I'm thinking it would be better just to cut a hole in the body and get rid of the fan altogether.

No, it does work. If you have an IR temp gauge, you will see temps drop 10-15 degrees.

It works. Was playing in 85 degree sand in fl last week. Its a small drop in temp but it does work. Surprisingly it held up the sand running through it.

the heat sink is pretty good but the fans from castle are notorious turds, you can get a good fan off ebay and it will work even better

I have been thinking of putting a fan on mine as the temps are at 130 degrees on the motor. What brand of fan would be a good choice?

I bought mine used and it was a brushed revo upgraded to brushless, it has a hobbywing ez run motor kit.
I have only used 4s on it.

10-15 degrees does not seem like a lot to me. Do you know how much difference it makes if you cut a ventilation hole in your body?

Vented body is by far the best solution, but my fan helps to keep mine about 10-15 degrees cooler as well. Every little bit helps when you're running hard.

Since I have been running 5S I have noticed ESC and motor are hotter. The ESC fan is often on now whereas it didn't seem to when I was only on 4S. I was hoping to get away without venting my body (weakening it/ letting debris inside) but it looks like it's the best thing to do. Thanks n_gifford.
