    2wd Slash Racing 3800kv or 4600kv

Hey im new to the 2wd scene and am planning on racing this truck at my local track. i know there is lots of factors to consider, but im new to racing and have no idea. i currently have a MMP, and the choice between a castle 4600kv motor or a castle 3800kv 5mm shaft motor. I do not know which one i should use to race and which one i should sell.

The track limits us to 2s lipo 5000mah, 2.2 tires. and the track is a loose dirt.

So if anybody could help me chose which motor i should use i would greatly appreciate it, or atleast point me to a thread that discusses this topic.

    Thanks Guys!!

i think keep the 3800. i believe that is the 1410 series motor which is one step down from the overkill 1415 series 2200kv motor. lol. i might do the mmp 3800 once my vxl set up takes a poo. i take good care of it though so it should last a while. trenchers or gladiators by proline should be good on your loose track.

Thanks redlightrandy, i was thinking i would like to keep my 3800kv. so ill prob be putting my 4600kv for sale somewhere haha.

What Spur and pinion should i use? since the 3800kv i have is 5mm shaft that limits me.

I found on ebay a combo from hot racing 18t 5mm shaft pinion with either a 56t,58t, or a 60t.

    What would you recomend?

i would keep the 4600 usually the higher th kv the more top end where as the lower the kv the more torque

Use the 4600 nobody wins siding with caution. I run a 4450 and wouldn't go back because clearing the jumps is priceless.

more torque plus longer gears = awesomeness just gear the 3800 for a little speed and you will have the top end of the higher kv plus the torque and less heat. oh and by the way, i grew up in new hampshire. mostly in nashua. living in arizona **** now. lol

What should i gear the 3800 at? it has a 5mm shaft so that limits me to 32p gears. and the only 32p spurs i can find for the slash 2wd are from HR and there metal gears with and 18t pinion and either a 56t,58t, or a 60t Spur.

Ok i have found 48p gears with the 5mm bore on the towerhobbies website. So now the question is gearing. i have no idea where to start because im use to slash 4x4 gearing not 2wd. i didnt even know they made spurs in the 80t haha.

So im limited to 2s lipo with 2.2 tires at my track. im running MMP and the 3800kv motor. so since its a lower Kv i can gear it higher and still get good speed and lower temps.

What should i run for gearing?? any body have a pinion and spur suggestion?

    Thanks Again

i have a 56 spur and 15 pinion in 32pitch gears with my velineon setup. you can do like the same thing but 16-18tooth pinion. my gears give me a 10.15 final drive ratio. with a 16 pinion you will be at 9.52. you can always try that and watch your temps. if it stays pretty kool with no issues then try an 18 tooth pinion.

I don't race with my SC sidewinder/3800kv setup, but for bashing I use 21 or 23t pinion. For racing I'd start with 16-18 for a small/med track because you'll want more get up and go instead of top speed.

the castle rocks, i`ll got the 3800 with the 3.17mm bore in me Slash
its a fast truck, faster than most on our track.. and only the lack of my drivingskills
    keeps me from winning

i use it for bashing & racing
    gearing is spur / pinion = 4 to 4.6
in wet loose sand i like 56/14=4 or 58/14=4,14
on a short track i`ll go down to 58/13=4,46

with 17mm hexx & 1:8 scale buggy tires street tread on a highspeed tarmac with a little dust on it
    we used 58 / 17 = 3,41
this was fun & fast & still able to do long wheely`s
but highspeed gearing takes about 6 minutes down of runtime from the LiPo`s

    the parts i use
    trx3947, 17T 32p
    trx3944 14T 32p
    trx3943 13T 32p
    trx3942 12T 32p
    trx3958 58T M0.8
    trx3957 56T M0.8
    2* trx3956 54T M0.8

For racing and just starting out I highly consider a sensored motor. A 13.5t will be fast to start with and when you want more power you can start using the timing boost and Turbo settings. The motors you have are great for bashing but BC its sensorless will lack the control and precision of a sensored motor. In racing its all about consistently and control not power.

The mmp can use sensored motors.
