    New to RC

    Hi all

I am 100% new to R/C and have recently purchased an E-Maxx Brushless, model 3908. My first impressions are:
HOLY CRAP -- This thing is a blast !
My backyard is three acres of flat mowed prarie-grassland and this thing is the perfect toy. I bought a pair of spare Nimhs (3000mAh) , an Onyx 245 charger and today a pair of 2S 5000mAh Lipos. The Lipos rock !

At the risk of being thought of as a whiner : I am a bit frustrated by the user manual ( for a 3903 ), an addendum to the manual, and an included "drivers ed guide" from Castle-- Between the three of them I still don't seem to have an accurate description of exactly what's under the hood.....but I'm slowly figuring it out.

Anyways, I was wondering if there are some recommended parts that are more prone to breaking that I should acquire ahead of time OR even just immediatly replace with something sturdier ? At this point I don't want to jump into a full rebuild, but I also want to minimize any down time. I've crashed several times, and although everything has held together, I'm sure its just been luck !

So, whats the best thing for me to do, wait until something breaks and fix it or prepare ahead ?

    Thanks !
    Dan

Whats under the hood is a 2200kv mamba monster system, able to handle up to 6s lipo. (Two 3s batteries together).
The best thing to do is wait until something breaks...then replace it with an rpm part. Rpm is know for making indestructible parts.
If your arms, shock towers, ar bearing carriers break, replace them with rpm. If your chassis or bulkheads break, replace them with aluminum.

by the way welcome to the hobby and the forum...we all love this hobby and I'm sure you will become an rc addict just like the rest of us here. In that case go to the thread entitled "You know you're an rc addict when..." in the alley. So funny, thanks to Baldydaniels!

Just watch out for trees and learn to feather the throttle.

If you take out an a-arm then replace with rpm, and you MIT as well do the front bulkheads at the same time.

Replace what breaks. Also check eBay for chop shops that part out new trucks. Complete new parts are often more cost effective than fixing what broke. I am amassing several replacements as I can for wear and tear parts.

    Welcome to the addiction.

This is definitely a great place to learn. As far as parts go: It's not if, but when it'll break. As you get to know your truck you'll find out what likes to break. For high failure parts, or me just being prone to crashing, I like to have spares so I can get up and running soon. I would also recommend against playing tag with other trucks in a parking lot. It's easy to get focused on the truck and not the curb you’re about to slam into.

In addition to what gaigin said.....don't do tug of wars they will eat your gears and driveshafts.
If you break driveshafts (I am 100% sure that you will) replace them with more plastic ones. Steel ones will put more stress on your diffs and transmission. Sure they're stronger, but only at the expense of other parts.

Thanks so much ! Just as an exercise, say I wanted to replace the stock bulkheads with FLM normal bulkheads. Would those be FLM17001 (front) and FLM18001 (rear) ? And where should I order them from , as FLM doesn't seem to have on line ordering ?

Sorry if this is basic, but I've really spent the last hours searching for these parts, if in fact they are the correct ones .

rc-monster.com has them both in stock at the moment. Stormerhobbies.com carries alot of flm aswell but seems to be out of stock. those are correct for your maxx, they arent an upgrade to 1/8th differentials but those that you chose are prefect unless you decide later you are going to run 6s and do alot of jumping. Then you go for the hybrids at $99 a pop

Yeah man ebay is THE place to go for all things rc!
If ebay doesn't have it, it doesn't exist.
