Engine too lean? Will it not get enough fuel to start?

Yeah i've been having some issues with starting my engine. I think it may be cause it's too lean. I read somewhere in the instruction manual that the factory needle settings were 2 turns out from close for both the HSN and LSN (I think that's bull) but the one guy at my local track said it should be like 3 and a half turns. Does this sound right? When I attempt to start the engine it has trouble getting fuel and will make like a gargling/popping sound.

2 turns out from closed on the HSN is way way to lean factory is 4-4 1/2 on the HSN and try to make the LSN flush or 1 3/4-2 turns out is a good starting point.

+1 with max overdrive. The hsn needle needs to be 4 "complete" turns out from flush. once you get it started you can tune from there. Make sure your carb slide is adjusted properly also. The gap should be approx the width of a credit card
