Did you notice much decline in handling?
not really my merv is very heavy with bead locks full tbone aluminum shocks so a little bit more didnt hurt but if i didnt have the tbone and beadlocks it would probly suck

what is the smallest and biggest pinion i can use with this set up its traxxas plate and mount also im running the 50 spur

Pm jimbo74 he runs a 3500
Smallest is 19t on a 50t spur.
Largest is over 32t at least. I love my 3500!
thanks dude this thing rocks

I have seen a couple running your bb setup. Is the velineon motor brtter than the castle 5700kv 4pole? Just curious because i have heard the traxxas brushless motors are excellent. I will want to try one on my merv. Please let me know what u guys think? Im currently running sv2 with 5700kv.

it depends what you mean by more powerful the 3500 is a torque monster and the 5700 has more horse power. i can run the 3500 for an hour and its just warm the 5700 would probly get real hot

I love my velineon 3500! I run it with 32/50 gearing on 2s and i have to work to get it to warm up. My CC 4600kv motor ran a lit hotter. I ran 1 set of 3s on the 3500 and it still ran pretty warm....... But that was running less than half throttle because any more would make it flip at pretty much any speed. My CC 4600kv motor is sitting in my tool box as a backup and the 3500 stays in my merv!![]()
My vote goes for the 5700 vs the 4600 and here's why. Both motors are designed for 1/10 cars which weigh a bit more than a Merv. Also consider that the Merv doesn't take much torque to be a relentless wheelie monster. Because of this, I went with the 5700 which provides a bit less torque than the 4600, but has more top speed than the 4600. There's not a huge difference between the two, as gearing can make one within epsilon of the other (math joke).
i was thinking of the line but i think your right the 57oo will also run way faster

I picked the 4600 because I think that is less sensitive for gearing than the 5700. I have no experience with the 3500 Velineon in the Merv, but I am surprised about korn0307's experience. I run it with 31/45 and have to do my best to heat it up on 3S. I run 2S most of the time and it always stays cool that way.
Notice there are also older 2 pole versions of the 4600 and 5700 which are way less powerful.

I would think in a light car there wouldnt be too much between the 1406 and the Vel 3500
Vel 3500 is rated at 1100 watts burst (100 amps @ 3s)
1406 (4600 or 5700) would not be rated for more power than 1100 watts, given that the larger 1410 3800 is only rated at 1200 watts or so
As far as Torque is concerned it comes down to longer rotor (3500) vs 4 poles
Cheers

From what I have seen from logging is that the 3500 is less powerful than the 4600. Not a huge difference tho.
Never seen watt ratings on specifications from neither Traxxas or Castle.
I agree about the fact that you wont notice much difference if you notice it at all in a light car like the Merv.

I'd like to know how my Neu 1110-1y stacks up against my old 1406 5700kv. Do you use a data logger, Petertje?
The velineon 3500 feels like its got more low end torque and the same top speed as the 4600kv 1406. But the velineon runs cooler. But im no expert just my feelings.
I have datalogged the 3500 and it will burst to 110 amps or so on 3s in a Slash 4x4
Never heard of a 1406 pulling anywhere near 110 amps
The larger 1410 3800 will only burst to 120 amps or so in a Slash 4x4
When I ran the CMS36 4600kv in my MERV it never recorded more than 80 amps or so on 3s or 4s

I have seen bursts up to 130A with the 4 pole 4600. If I remember well, that was on grass with the Bandit. The 3500 data was with the little guys Rustler.
My logging was done with an Eagletree eLogger V4.
For the record: I am just sharing data here and I have no single doubt about the info that crusey shares. He has way more experience with different motors and ESCs than me.

What voltage were you running when you saw the 130 amps ?
Never owned or tested a 1406, interesting indeed though
Assuming at those sort of amps she gets hot ?
Cheers

That was on 3S. I don't even have anything else for my 1/10 scale cars anymore, lol. It were only short bursts and I didn't run it long, around 5 minutes I guess. Not sure about the temps it got to that day, but I agree with you it wont like it when you use that amount of power too long. It was 130A max, but there were also a few bursts of 120-125A.
To me it feels just a little more torque-ish than the 3500. The 4600 was as good as new when I tested it and the 3500 was half a year old but still in a good state.
To the OP: a 3500 is still a great choice and more than powerful enough for the little fella![]()

The 3500 is an inexpensive, tough, powerhouse of a motor and is often underestimated. In comparison to a 4pole is kinda like apples to oranges. I really like mine. I feel confident gearing my 1/16 to the roof ( I don't run merv size tires) and the temps stay low. I recently picked up a 4600 1406 in hopes I can gear it even more (more torque). I have a heat gun though so anything goes. If you have totally killer c rated batteries (by far the most important thing on these) you can get away with murder "until" the temps get to about 180F +. The fastest way to kill your esc is gearing crazy with less than par batteries...and of course, heat.
Oh, almost forgot. Be careful with the motor mount. They like to strip out where you adjust for mesh. I just hagger'd mine out while skate park bashing the other day. I had to remove the two little washers on the allen screw so there's not much bite left. Another Tenbol is in order...

Its not cheap, but works good. I just wanted to have one to understand more about the motors, controllers and batteries and have data from first hand. I got the brushless RPM sensor and the GPS module. If you ever consider buying one, the brushless RPM sensor isnt easy to get working correctly.

What is the biggest pinion which will physically fit in a brushed mini revo?
