    Rustler DIED

My rustler 2.5 is done for. I stopped in to my LHS and they told me if i brought them my engine in that they would trade me out for a new 2.5 for 110.00 plus 5.99 shipping. This dose not sound right to me cause if i do the power-up program I could get the 3.3 for 110.0. Can someone maybe explain this to me. If the LHS is just trying to make money off me. Cause it would make more since to me to get the 3.3 even know i dont want that much power cause the 2.5 wheelies to much for my likings.

    Wow, $110?
I'm getting my 3.3 for $120 new, including shipping.

I don't know much about the Power-Up Program though. Never did it

$110 is normal for a swap using the power up program. Almost better of to go to ebay. 2.5's often go for less than $100

Yeah thats what I was thinking. Cause I would just order the sleeve and piston cause ebay has them for around 40 i think is what I found them for and still get a hole 2.5 for the same price as the LHS was trying to get me to buy it for

the powerup program is 85.00+5.95 shipping for a 2.5R, 110.00+5.95shipping for a 3.3. ebay you can find cheaper than what your hobby shop is trying to sell you. i think your hobbyshop is trying to charge you their price which is not traxxas's price, look up your hobby shop in the locate dealer in the traxxas support page enter your zip code and see if they are a powerup program hobby shop if not then thats why its higher. i would rather just buy a engine off ebay instead of powerup program as you can have an extra case, bearings, rod if not broken, cooling head, shalf, you just loose out the piston/sleeve is all most of the time.

Mike is right on point here. I'm not interested in the power up program ether. The carb alone will make up for the difference twice. lol 2.5, 2.5r and 3.3 use the same carb, plugs, starters, starter backplate and owb, Defiantly go with the 3.3. Theres many ways to stop the wheelieing but the simplest is to simply run a little richer, easy with the throttle and breaks, and get the hang of the new engine. I know if you order a 2.5, you will have it for a month and your skills will improve and your truck will get better and you will wish you got the 3.3 for like $15 more. Don't get me wrong, you can have lots of fun with the 2.5 but I am a huge fan of the 3.3. I feel the only reason Traxxas don't put it in the rusty is cause no one in there right mind would buy a jato lol

Why would anyone buy a Jato anyways??? BOOOOOOO JAto. The only thing I like about a jato is the fact that I can beat them with my slutsler. By this time next week I should be able to beat them with the rustler. I am eyeballing an 18tm for it.
If you have beefed up your suspension with the RPM bits, Get the 3.3 just take it easy till you get the feel for it. But be prepaired to do some additional mods. I would highly recommend the idler gear mod and the 500K in the diff mod. Its all worth it though. The 3.3 in a rusty is a blast to play with.

i like the jato, didnt get to run one though as i tried to tune it for a buddy but it needed some cleaning and i mean deep cleaning i couldnt even get the thing started, i took the head off and it had old fuel build up and slimy inside. i like the width of it but the rustler is just like it and not as pricey as the jato. i'll have to get some 500K diff oil as well.
what brand is doing good on diff oil? i think traxxas has one but looking at other brands also as i will be ordering shock oil as well with which will be either 40-50wt oil.

The traxxas diff oil works fine. Theres lots of greases that will work just fine, its just a matter of how thick you want to go.

Kyosho 500K is the thickest I have been able to find. Its not oil its grease. You can almost cut it with a blade. Thick, sticky, stuff.

ok so the 500K both from traxxas and kyosho are both grease then? i put some grease or oil in the last time i was in the tranny so i'll have to clean that out good before putting that in there, do you know if i'll be using most of the bottle so i can order 2 or can i get about 2 diff rebuilds with 1 bottle? if i have enough i'll order 2 maybe. need to buy something for my merv charger now.

The Traxxas bottle will get 2 diffs with some left over. Yup, you want to clean the old stuff out. While in there, look for wear or damage to the teeth. Good luck
