Post Rust list is open now!

I recently bought a great mini precision lathe and I was thinking I should try to make the first 100% waterproof Slash 4x4. I intend to buy all the stainless screws and blabbering I can find for the truck but I know there are other parts that rust so please help me identify them.
So if you are game and you find rust on some part please list it here with the part number if possible. Thank YOU!

good luck with that one. dont know how you can 100? water proof bearings. i dont think they make bearing buddys that small.
even stainless steel can rust thats why it is called stain less not stain proof

Complete ceramic bearings. Long life and great performance. But empty your pocket you Will pay for them.

Ok. So we can add all the bearings and all the screws but that we already know. What about the ball joints? Anybody found rust there? Or for example the spring on the slipper clutch? Or the differentials gears? Or the sway bars? That’s the kind of thing that I am interested in. Thanks!

I actually just found rust on the small gear on my motor. Not sure what it is called. Very light rust, mostly just a stain but still rust.

I assume that you're talking about your pinion gear. You still want that to be steel I can't imagine making it out of aluminum. A little surface rust wont hurt it. Just means you need to drive your truck more!

They make stainless steel bearings so a pinion can’t be that difficult...

You will need a SUPER SET machine to make the splines for the correct pitch and tooth count. Remember that stainless is softer than the steel uesd for the stock screws. The more stainless the material, the softer it will be.

Right you are about that but that pinion is in contact with plastic so the wear and tear is going to be taken on mostly by the spur gear. I am not capable yet to make cog gears because at least I steel need to buy a division table which is about 400 euros. For now I am just testing different ideas.

This is correct but unless you dump the thing in a pool for 2 days it is unlikely to happen.
Do you find rust on your cutlery for example?
    Quite

Why not save the money, time and head ache? Send all the parts you are concerned about to some one who can either Teflon or E coat them.
If you have more time and money than most of us, then by all means, get to it. If not, you are talking thousands of dollars to do this yourselfand who knows how long it will take you to get it right? Say you get it right the first time, after all the costs of buying the machinery, stock, posting for the delivery and installation of equipment, hours of work time put into it and so on. What do you think the final cost is? If you try to sell then on the open market, what will the point of purchase be? How long will it take to recover initial cost of development and manufacturing? Will the cost be cheap enough for the masses to buy?
I know this went far, but trust me, I had three successful businesses before joining the Army. Race shop and team, high end weapon builder, commercial/private contract security. That is what I owned, not to mention what I did for a living.

I already have most of the machinery I need and I spent about 3000 euros on it but that was not for my Slash or some commercial end. For a long time I wanted to fabricate all sorts of little simple things that I couldn’t buy anywhere and that frustration, finally made me buy a mini lathe /milling machine combination. I am a novice using my machinery but I learn and it is very rewarding when you create something new and useful of your own design.
Some things on the Slash are beyond my fabricating capabilities but some others are very simple to do and I am long past the illusion that life is long enough to try to transform everything into something profitable.
If you do that in the process you forget to enjoy the hobby. No commercial ends here...
P.S. A simple electroplating kit can be less than 50$. That’s a good idea!

Glad you took it the right way. Keep up the machining, not many out there are creative enough to do it theirselves. I fabbed and machined for 10 years, I know what you say. God luck!
