My Monster Buggy

Hey Guys,

Last month, I got a new, complete and never run before, Monster Buggy from badbrad222... Pictures from badbrad222...




My problem with the Monster Buggy was that it is too big and too expensive to ship it outside the US in the original box...

So, a friend of mine who lives in the US took it apart and sent it to me today like this:

1 box: approx 2 lbs: body, wing, bumper, decals, manual
1 box: approx 9 lbs: susp F&R, rear rires, roll cage
1 box: approx 18 lbs: chassis, motor, front tires

I also got 2 new in box Futaba S134 steering servos... These are the ones recommended on the manual... Pictures from the seller...





I also got a used Futaba S9302 servo for the throttle/brake... I bought a new case for it just in case...

Well, probably I'll have it by 05/08 or 05/10, so, I'll update this thread with new pictures when it's here...

Thanks cooleocool! I waited a long time to have one like this one... I'm trying to find the sway bars now... Well, one steering servo and the throttle/brake servo arrived, and I took a few pictures...





The Futaba S134 is huge and I like it! I guess it needs a bigger NiMh pack, right? And, these gas engines don't like AM radios, right?

I would definitely stay away from an AM radio. Pick up an older Futaba Magnum Junior T2PEKAFM radio (I think that was the model number, just look for a Futaba Magnum FM... that should pull it up); those were really popular on gas powered R/Cs in that time period.

couldnt you use the 2.4 Link system with it? i see that the other gassers have 2.4 systems why not this one.

He could, but he also usually likes using equipment from the vehicle's time period. The Futaba system I recommended came around towards the latter half of the MBs production life, but it was a popular radio for gas powered vehicles.

Yes, more like 1/6...

What ever you do be sure to wrap the receiver and servo's in foam. No matter what radio system you have if they are hard mounted to the chassis, the two-stroke will make them seizure like crazy because of the vibration. I don't know too much about the monster buggy, but I know on my 5b and Zenoah powered boats, vibration can lead to a radio system failure.
Just a quick tip..

ooh ok didnt know that sorry about that. sometimes i like to have orignal stuff with my rc's also like on old ones you just got. nice find by the way too. seen one on here a while back they were selling for around $500-$600 was nice. i would have got it but that amount of cash just wasnt there at the time nor now lol.

Yup, for now, it will stay as a shelf queen with the servos installed... I'm working on that now...

I have questions about that:

Is the same thing with the nitromethane engine?
It use normal gasoline?
It have lean/rich problems like the nitro cars?
The engine is a 2 stroke?
It have the same problems with temperature like nitro cars?

Speaking in general about gas engines, it's like tuning a weed eater. There is a lean/rich adjustment, but it's not as temperamental. It uses gasoline with 2-cylce oil mixed in.

For a minute there, I thought you were going to actually run it. Glad to see you're not. I figure if a person wants a big gas buggy to run, why spend more on a slower vintage car you may not be able to get parts for when there are faster, better looking, newer, cheaper large-scale alternatives. If I had room to collect a Monster Buggy, I would sure love to have one.

Right! And I don't like the smell of gas, once it touches the tank, tubes and engine, it will never go away...
