    Which engine?

I am hoping to start my rusty rebuild this weekend and when I started looking at 3.3s to put in it, I found out there are i am guessing 2 kinds the mullti shaft and the IPS shaft. Does any one know which one I will need or what the differences are between the 2?

you want either 5407 or 5404. The difference is on the 5409 and 5406 the shaft is shorter and threaded (multi-shaft). It requires another part to install the clutch bell. Just make sure the shaft loos the same as what is on your 2.5 and you will be fine.

Yes you want the IPS crankshaft. Get part number 5407 cause it includes a pull start and one way bearing. Good luck

Well thats kind of the issue my rusty was equipped with a .15 not a 2.5, I probably should have mentioned that in the original posting asking the question. Will that change anything as far as shaft length?

Nope, you still want the same 2.2 but you also want the kit with the motor mounts, header, pipe and throttle linkage; part number 4400, for about $20-25. Where its an older rustler, double check that the drivetrain spins fine and nothing is binding up. You don't want extra load on the engine when you break it in. Good luck. The 3.3 is the way to go.

I havent been able to locate that kit at my LHS maybe I am not looking for the right thing. Yeah it seems to roll really smooth but I will check it again before I start the rebuild.

towerhobbies has the kit for 22.95 i think, with shipping should be +5.99shipping. i have most of that stuff except the mounts. thats what i need is the adjustable mounts. pick up an extra one as they are weak if you put a screw in at the wrong angle.

Dustn, the mounts are included in the 2.5/3.3 kit, part number 4400 with everything you need.

So witch part were you missing? I loose parts all the time. Sometimes its easier to order new parts instead of finding the ones I have lol.

those very small parts like e clips and shims or something small like those i tend to loose them also, thats why its a good idea to have a magnitic mat under you when dealing with those small pieces, i have a couple small magnitic fidge things from cvs i use to hold parts on it. anything is better than nothing.

I use a rubber mat that I snagged out of my buddies dodge. It has the big red ram emblem. Its textured and grooved everywhere so the parts stay put. I have a few magnets to make life easier. Don't have magnetic tools, put a magnet on your screwdriver, it works even better. Its a good idea to have extra hardware on hand. Everyone looses something at some point. The fridge magnet is a good idea.

I am guessing I lost the 2 brackets that mount to the motor itself and the mount to the frame mounting bracket [ ] kinda look like that. I do need to get a pad or something underneath it when I work on it, I will have one whenever I get the chance to build my mancave lol.

Mike, if you do the vxl mod it should.
f687s, Multishaft refers to the type of crankshaft, nothing to do with the starter.
Dustin, I know the parts your talking about. Yeah a good place to work is key.

Yeah the kitchen table not so good, not only do you lose parts very easy but you get yelled at for oil and Nitro being on the table lol.

I just picked up from work an instrumentation table. The entire top is made from one big piece of polished slate. Along with it came a magnetic mat. Its just a roll of magnetic material used to make fridge magnets. It needs cleaning up due to all the grease and coal dust. But the price was right. They was throwing it away. Once I get it cleaned up and painted I will post a pic.

    Hey Dustin,

Have you got the engine mounting figured out? Shaggy mentioned the TRA 4400 kit. That will come with new mounts and SHOULD also have the [ ] brackets you are looking for. there is a difference in the 2.5 and 3.3 mounts. That is why they include 2 different mounts in the kit.

Hope all is going well - VIDEO or it didnt happen!

The mounts are the same for the 2.5 and 3.3. The reason 4400 comes with 3 brackets is cause the kit is also for the n pede. The 3.3 was designed to drop right into any truck with the 2.5/ 2.5r

I found the parts they where part of the ones I took off it when I first got it, so at one time I think it had a 2.5 on it.

My bad Mike, when I read hex kit i was thinking about wheel hubs for some reason. I'm not sure about hardware. The VXL and Nitro are to completely different trucks so allot of the screws will be different lengths. I just buy the traxxas hex hardware in packs of 6 from rcplanet for $2. Every time I make an order I put a few sets in and all my screws are fresh.
