They're safe, just require extra precautions. As long as you aren't careless you won't have any issues. Gens ace, sky and SPC are good cheap batteries. I would stay away from expensive max amps as well.
With lipo batteries you need a proper lipo charger if you don't have one already first and foremost. Inspect your packs for any damage prior to charging. Balance charge every time. Use either an external LVA or the built in LVC of the esc if it has one.

I had a set of Sky lipo 3s 5000mah 40c running in my EMaxx... So running 6s.... Knowing all I am is a full basher 6s was way way too much power for me!!! I run rpm arms with pro line trenchers, after 10mins of 6s I sold them. I'm back to 4s now where I run Venom 5000mah 40c 2s or I run my speedpack 6000mah 30c 2s .... And I am very happy with both brands power wise and toughness.

So among spc, promatch, sky lipo, and gens ace, what is the best? And is the onyx 245 a good charger?
Me and pinit would both like to know this. By the way, pinit, you got 3 replies.

6s is serious power and needs lots of practice and spare parts. Best to start with 2 2s batteries.

Max amps seem to be way over priced when compared to other cheaper batteries. There has been a few tests out there. I dont think anything to crazy but some basic speed runs with both and amps they can take and such. When most compared the 100 dollar max amps to low end brands like 25 dollar ******* and results were very close. Same with amps vs gens ace. The gens ace which I have are great for the price and tend to be under sold if anything. Their 40C output but when I harmmer the trigger and can do a back flips on a 10-15 lb truck thats crazy.

I saw a video a couple years ago of a brushless Revo doing standing backflips while running accurately rated 20C/2S packs. I'm trying to remember the guys name so I can find the video.

If you search over on URC in the batteries section I think it is you can see a good reason why they have a bad name as well. Jang tested a cheap gens ace against a $150 Max amps and felt the gens ace far out performed the expensive battery.

That test sold me on the Gens Ace, they are the only ones I use.

Yup, saw the video and bought 2 of right away as Christmas presents. I always had my suspicions but that confirmed it.

I did a high speed back flip and landed on all four tires yesterday on 6S using Gens Ace 3S LIPOs. I also have a set of 2S LIPOs. Both sets have been a blast to use.

Which Gens Ace 3s lipo are you running?

    I currently have 2) 3s ******** (4000mah 30c) but want something for speed runs.

I was looking at the GensAce 5300 60-120c 3s. Has anyone fit this one in the e-revo? http://www.hobbypartz.com/98p-60c-5000-3s1p-3333.html
