    Extra Ducting

Made extention for motor cooling duct to get air to flow over more of the motor. Totally connected to stock duct so it all comes off as one piece. Just click the sidewalls ahead of motormounts and behind batt tray and its a sealed shroud. Should help maintain temps a little better. Who knows. Also made an naca duct for direct esc cooling. If I put it where drivers head would be, it would be a direct shot of all the air into the esc fan. I'm leary about cutting roof but I made the naca plate to go on the underside of body too stregthen around the hole.

Don't you live on the north pole or something? How are you having heat issues?

Imo the stock duct moves air around and under the motor to also hit the esc. Your now preventing that from happening, so your second duct will be useful.(it was rumored falsely that esc temp was going to be reported on the TQI)

Your car will stop moving at some point. Will your motor be cool by then? How's it going to shed heat wrapped in that?

But hey I run a screen in my duct that dampers my airflow because someone said that's how rocks are getting in. I still get rocks though.

my problem i have with the air blowing across the motor onto the ESC is that ... all that air is now heated and it blows that newly heated air onto the ESC...

that was why i made the duct from the side window "vent" area to the ESC , but as i said in another post..
i took it apart to construct a new mounting bracket

i only did it because i thought it was a good idea for added cooling... havent seen any very high temps. yet on the motor or ESC, but the hottest day i've run it so far is about 75F

    a) I'm not having heat issues....yet, it can get into the 90's here too in summer. I'm more just piddling around with it because its a blizzard outside with a foot of fresh snow.. I like to experiment with things, if it doesn't work nothings lost. I have data from first two runs so we will see how much effect this has.
    b) This shroud does not prevent air from getting around and under, if anything it increases it because ALL the air from the duct is held around motor. None is being lost straight out the back towards rear wheel. I doubt much of the air from the duct in stock trim makes it to esc as the air under body would be turbulent anyways. You can buy another sensor from traxxas to mount on the esc for its temp.
    c) My car doesn't go slow enough for long enough to build huge heat. By the time it rolls to a stop it's fairly cool. 1/2 of the can perimeter is uncovered by shrould anyways which is still a cm away can itself. If it gets that hot i'll just pull the whole thing off with the 1 screw.
    d) Rocks get in from the tires picking them up.

They're Dynamite Speedtread Roadrunners for 1/8 buggies. They would be a disaster if I tried to use them on XO-1. They turn into frisbees by 60mph. I could barely keep my slash on the road with them. They are only on there cuz the xo1 wheels are on the slash.

Thats good to know your temps are not bad at 75F. Haven't seen that warm yet. I was thinking of going your way for esc. I'm just gonna leave it for now and if temps get bad I'll try it. So far my tires were warmer than the esc after my last runs. Batts warmed up pretty good too.

Had many runs on days in the Upper 80s here in Florida and as long as you keep her moving there isn't really any over heating with the high speed gears. That said this really seems like a great thing to keep you busy while it snows in whatever god awful place your in, but not really much use beyond that.

For those looking for useful projects that will be value added to your xo-1, look at stiffening suspension, the massive downforce at speed can actually make the car drag on ground, and bigger batteries (not more cells just more mah) .

I'm in Canada. Yukon border. For the record my 1st two speedruns were 6km long at 10celsius airtemp. Motor temps were 105fah and 108fah respectively. Just did my 3rd run (1st with motor shroud) length 8km, airtemp 13celsius and low and behold motor temp at end of run..........96fah. Longer run & warmer outside with motor cooler than before. I'll leave my goofy shroud on.

Trust me, it is fah. 108c is 226fah lol, I would have smelt that from my truck first and then seen the contrail. I've run low turn hi kv motors as hot as 180fah before but would like to stay 160 or lower with this motor when summer heat hits. Shouldn't be a prob.
