Got a 1/16 Summit from Tower Hobbies on Tuesday. The truck was driveable, but behaved very strangely at slow speed. Swapped the ESC from the 1/16 E-Revo I purchased at the same time...works like a champ.
Traxxas Tech Support was very helpful. My ESC is in the mail on its way back to them. Hopefully they will give me one that works as well as the one from the E-Revo. Below is the detailed info I sent along with the RMA. Maybe this will be helpful to others having problems with the ESC from the 1/16 Summit
These are the symptoms my model is experiencing:When driving forward slowly and coasting, I try to apply more forward
throttle and the truck applies the brakes. The same thing happens in
reverse. When driving backward slowly and coasting, I try to apply more
reverse throttle and the truck applies the brakes. The braking issue is
somewhat intermittent. It happens about 30% of the time. The truck also
seems to sometimes stutter at 10-25% throttle. Truck is 100% stock using a
single Traxxas supplied stock NiMH battery.
I have already tried these troubleshooting procedures:Luckily I purchased a Traxxas 1/16 E-Revo VXL RTR at the same time (Please
see my Tower Hobbies Receipt). The E-Revo truck works flawlessly. I tried
swapping parts one-by-one until I determined that the root cause was the
ESC. First I swapped transmitters, no change. Next I swapped radio
receivers, no change. Then I swapped ESCs between the trucks. With the
original ESC from the E-Revo now in the Summit, the Summit performed
flawlessly. With the original ESC from the Summit now in the E-Revo, the
E-Revo exhibited the same slow speed braking issue described above.
