******* ********* motor gearing question:
Hello. I have a new style brushless ready emaxx, I have the ********* motor with heatsink and fan on its way and am going to be running it on 5s2p a123 batteries. I need to know what gearing to run it on. I have 19 and 21 tooth pinion gears, also 62 and 68 tooth spur. I want good speed and good temps and decent battery life. I'm not out for Max speed.
I have been running a titan 775 with 19/68 gears on the 5s2p a123 batteries. I'm pretty happy with that so I know I'm going to be extatic with my brushless setup.
Im looking for any of your setups to go from.
Thanks for any and all help.
Is that the 2650kv motor ? I would start with the 19p and the 68s and watch the temps. You will know from there if you have to gear up or down.
Its 2560. That was my plan, just wanted to see what others had ran
Do you have a temp gun or something you can use to monitor your temps with ? They very useful when testing a new setup.
No but can get one. Usually use my hand.
I would get one. 120 to 140 can feel really hot to the touch.
Yeah, I'm a welder an used to handling hot things, sorta desensitized, but a heat gun will be a easy buy.
Looked up a calculator and according to my specs, il see over 40mph with the 19/68 gears. That is going to be insane for the area i have to run in.
I have 5 buddies that have tmaxx 3.3 and revo 3.3. They rag on me for having the slow emaxx, but mine is so clean lol no grease everywhere.
I just wanna beat up on them in the occasional drag race and bashing around.
You are well on your way to beating them.
I started off as a welder I am now an engine mech on a ship. But guess who gets all the fabricating jobs. Love it though.
I run the same motor in my 3906 maxx. I am using 18P 66S with 7 inch tires. I run mine on 4s and it doesnt get too hot. When i am bashing i run it on 2S to get double runtime. No heat at all on 2s.
I'm running the ******* 2560kv in my 3906 with 3.2" rimmed tires. With 18/70 gearing it tops out about 40mph. Temps stay about 130* after a 20 minute track run. Here's some video if you haven't viewed it already.
LD your backyard track is wicked.
Just saying !
If you'd like to see what the track looks like now click the top of the YouTube link. Go to my 13 videos and watch the newest one with my SC10 and my buddies RC10.
Can't post it on the Traxxas videos but at least you can check it out.
Even has music and SLOooooo MOooooo
The ******* ********* 2650 cant take more than 4s lipo. I tried mine with 5s and it got waayy too hot. I know A123 cells are a bit lower voltage but be carefull with the temps!

I just checked that A123 are about 3,65V/cell when full so 5s is 18,25V. You should be fine
Yeah. This is just my first budget build. I have the hobbywing ezrun 150a pro on its way. If the motor goes out i can always get a different one.
I'm using the HobbyWing 120 amp ESC with the 2560kv motor. It's a great combo and with the 150 pro it should be the same. You won't believe how smooth the 6 pole motor works vs 2 or 4 pole motors. Your gona LIKE IT! and for about $60.00 shipped it's hard to beat.
yeah I hope so, yours looks like it runs nice. Any other vids. Other then the track ones
I've just purchased this HobbyWing combo after watching this video. Haven't tried it yet but here's the video I found. It scoots on 4s.
