Just scored a Slayer for $100

Hey guys, just bought a Slayer for $100. Its not the pro, its the original one. I currently own a Revo 3.3 so I know the chassis layout. I pan on putting 50wt shock oil and stiffer springs, maybe even some sway bars. Ive also got a THS pipe laying around that I plan on installing. Should I go ahead and upgrade this thing to a pro or should this be decent enough to bash with?

I have to older slayer and love it I put sway bars and center diff. on it and it works great for me. I would say to try it the way it is then upgrade if you think it's needed.

    lol nice!
When I was looking for a slayer pro I was trying to get a slayer for 100$ or a pro 4x4 for 250$ If I got the old slayer was going to drop money into it to make it a slayer pro 4x4.
That THS pipe is awesome too!
But I think you will have fun bashing with it. You could do a little project and swap parts from the revo and slayer. lol I saw a lot of people like bashing the 2.5 Revo chassis with the trx 3.3. I probably would if I had the 3.3 revo and an old slayer.

Yea my revo is a 2.5 version with a 3.3. Awesome truck. I thought about converting the Slayer to a Revo, but I already have one. That THS pipe is awesome. I had it on my Revo but swapped it for the Trinity. I just love that Trinity pipe. I may even find another Trinity for the Slayer.

Here it is with the THS installed along with new fuel line, fuel filter. Needs a good cleaning. Only thing wrong with it was the OWB needed cleaning. Im going to fill the shocks with 50WT and maybe change the springs.

I would recommend the sway bar kit. it makes a huge difference in handling.

Cleaned the shocks up and filled with 50wt oil. Deffinately needs stiffer springs. Still debating on buying another matching pair of BFGs to put on.

The guy that had it didnt know much about nitro. He thought there was more wrong with it than there really was. After a good cleaning of the OWB, good to go. I have more plans for this truck in the future. Im thinking converting to a Slayer Pro. Its getting hard to find bodies for these short chassis trucks.

After getting back from a week long business trip, I finally ran the Slayer. Set the carb to factory settings and fired right up. This thing def needs sway bars. Even with the 50wt oil and stiffer springs, this thing rolls too easily. I know its alot to do with me trying to drive like its my Revo, but still I see a need for some suspension upgrades. I think maybe the Slayer Pro arms and some sway bars with further help.

Sway bars and the center diff. make a big difference in the way this thing handles. To convert it to a revo is going to cost some money to do it right. Not only are you going to need the a-arms turnbuckles and push rods but also the revo springs for the shocks (the slayer springs won't be strong enough because of the longer arms) and you may need the revo trans. if you plan on putting revo tires on because the slayer trans. was geared down for the smaller tires. Not trying to talk you out of it just want to let you know what is involved. I put the Sway bars and the center diff. and also the Baja bug body that way if it does roll over most of the time it ends up on the wheels

Yea I already have that stuff and currently putting it together. I already have a Revo so I know whats involved. Pretty easy and cheap when you sell the Slayer stuff. I just need to order the forward only kit for a Revo to put in the Slayer trans.

Finally had time to finish my Slayer to Revo conversion. Went from this...

    To this...

The Slayer just didnt fit my driving style. Maybe if I drove it on a dirt track it would have been okay. But for bashing, I just didnt have any fun with it.

did you end up painting the chassis when you converted it to the revo? just saw it went from the old silver chassis to the new blue chassis. just was curious of what paint you used.

He didn't paint it because it looks like it is the 30mm longer chassis while the slayer didn't have one. If he would of painted it he would have anodized it in beautiful blue. Not paint.
