Motor gets hot with 2s lipo

I'm using Venom 2000mah, 7.4v, 20c battery's (one at a time) and after barely 10 minutes of driving hard the motor gets super hot to the touch. any idea's?

Have you taken any temp readings? What pinion are you using? I am running mine on 2s with a 28T pinion and I am getting temps around 150° after running for about 20-30 mins.

everything is stock except for the lipo, 150 degrees is pretty hot no?

150° is hot to the touch but not more than the motor can handle. I have heard that 180°-200° is the max temp you should ever let your motor get. I usually try to stay under 160°. Anyone else heard of the max temperature for the Velineon 380 motor?

I always go by the 150 degree rule of thumb for all of my electronics. While it might be a little conservative for some motors and ESCs, it's better to be safe than sorry.

yes, the vxl motor has a little tag on it that says dont go over 200*

traxxas says:

• Monitor temperature. When operating your model with two batteries, be careful to monitor the temperature of the speed control and motor to prevent overheating. Stop running your model and allow it to cool if the speed control's thermal overload protection activates or if the motor temperature exceeds 200° F. The Traxxas #4091 Temperature Gauge is a helpful accessory for monitoring motor temperature.

this is their procedure for dual batteries, on this page, but the rule of 200* max still applies to a single battery

I put a fan on my motor, it still gets hot but not as much anymore. Plus, I think, it looks pretty good.

It plugs directly into the receiver. Channels 3-5 should be empty.

I got this last week and it has dropped my temps by about 10°.

Heat sink with or with out fan and cut some holes in the body front and back to allow air to pass through. You really need a temp gun to measure as the finger method is just not reliable enough IMO. You could also try and drop back a tooth or two on the pinion.

my mini revo used to hit 216-250 degreese i still ran it and had no problems other then a couple melted parts around the motor. ran strong till the day i sold it telling the guy what happend he dident even care.... once he saw it run!!!!
