    Racing Ken Block

I am looking to race the Ken Block! Is anyone else out there racing one?

If so what set ups are you running? I will be running on ashphalt.

I know I will need different tires? Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance for the help.

You will want some sort of 1/10 touring car tire. The stocks wont have enough grip for racing. You might want to look into sway bars because the main handling problem is the high center of gravity. i Run 60w shock oil in mine and it's pretty stable at high speeds. But i just do onroad bashing that hints toward racing.

Thank you, I will give it a shot. It will be interesting to see how it goes a) on the track, and b) against proper (Nitro and Electric) touring cars.

FYI, for anyone that is interested.

Borrowed my brother in laws 1/16 mini erevo, put touring car tires on, and dropped it. Went to the track and ended up racing a nitro 1/8, and a 1/10 touring car with a 5 turn brushless motor. Of course, I lost and these guys were both pros.

Interestingly enough, I could pretty much keep up in the windy sections, it was on the straights that they killed me.

The guy that was racing the car, told me that it was a T.O.P, and that he had a hobbywing 5 turn BL motor. He also told me which club he races at and asked me to come down.

He could have lied! But I will give him the benefit of the doubt, cause you should have seen the speed that he had on the back straight. He was seriously fast!

I have since bought my own 1/16, and am waiting to meet him again.

If you wish to see the track, google rc track at Whalan reserve, Sydney, NSW, Australia.

    Why is it odd?

I'd recommend for a base line ON ROAD set up
The 4.3 rate front Rally springs TRA7342
The 3.4 rate rear Rally springs TRA7341
    Good set of tires

I have bought two sets of touring car tires, supposed to be the best. One are HPI and the other are Muchmores?. I have upgraded the pinion gear.

Have been trying to get springs, but the local hobby shops have run out.

i got my springs on ebay and had them in 3 days. look in the road racer section on the rally/ mustang , i did the drilled rocker mod and it works great with the stock springs. i did change the gears on mine, it was running way to hot i went to a 24/55 gears and its warm but not so hot i couldn't touch it.

I was told any touring car tire would fit, but check first! Mine are rubber tires.

    Have ordered the springs.

hi guys, I am running the KB but with a bigblock motor (Castle Sidewinder 5700kv) using sorex tyres 32's they give good grip but the car tends to roll when cornering at anything above slow speeds, any ideas for a set up to help with high speed cornering will be a BIG help, run mostly on asphalt bashing/ racing with friends, not sure if the sorex wheels/tyres are the best choice tbh as they are not as wide as the standard wheels

All I have done is change the springs to tan. Seems to have helped.

I have seen an aftermarket sway bar kit. I haven't bothered yet!

I have the swaybar kit fitted to a standard rally, but not the KBlock as it wont fit on the rear with the 540 bigblock motor fitted, are you running the standard motor/esc Keggo or upgraded 540?? only ask as not sure if the tan springs are firmer or softer than the standard white springs?

At this point I have the standard motor and esc. I am looking at upgrading them....just not sure which combination yet. My understanding is tan is the next spring, followed by black.

maddenmaxx, thank you, I saw the original thread, diidn't see the latest stuff.

I was debating whether to do the rocker set up. I'll be honest, I would be worried about stuffing it. Still may give it a go though.

The spring set up is good though.

its a lot easier then you think... i took one of the rear arms apart and used it as a guide , i screwed the rear holes together and drilled the front. or you can buy the hot racing rears and invert them with no trouble at all

Thanks for the info re the springs Keggo.
I have been looking at the drilled rocker mod and might have a play at drilling a few holes on some old spare ones (while the HR ones I ordered turn up ) I also ordered a few sets of springs too Green,Tan and Black.
I am going to run the rocker mod on the Mustang and the HR on the KB rally.

Which springs are you running front/rear, got the standard set up on the KB rally and some Merv ??? ones on the Mustang (spray panted black as it was when I got it,set up rock hard and not very good )

The tyres I am running atm are Schumacher sorex 32's from my tc and the HPI radial X's I was thinking or getting some foams but those you linked look interesting and are in the right price range too

I might use the other set of rockers I ordered on the front of the Mustang or might lend them to my machinist friend to replicate so I have a full set for both

When I had mine, I ran the stock springs on the rear and the hardest aftermarket spring I could find on the fron.
For tires (foams), I ran 35 compound on the rear and 40 compounds on the front.

it is amazing on how much better the car handles now then when we first started racing them and how much the class has grown. there were only the 2 of us the first night then we had a few 18/t/r's show and some losi stuff now its a full blown 8 car rally class with more being added each week.

I am running hpi x patern tyres and I also have muchmores.

The hpi's are good and haven't tried the muchmores yet, but they are supposed to be really good.

The rockers and most of the springs I ordered have at last arrived (1 set of Tan springs on backorder), I just need to pull my finger out now and fit them to both cars,I have put 5000wt oil in 1 set of shocks and I am going to run the Tan and Green springs for now, I am thinking of going for a different set up for the other car to experiment with heavier oil and springs as It is running a 540 motor (unless anyone has a setup to recommend using with the big block motor)

I will let you know how things progress
