I like the stock S1 tires! If you are going to run stock tires, get the S1 compound! They are a lot softer and have alot more traction. My favorites are TRA5873R. They have great traction for all surfaces. Or you can get the Kumho tires. They are also good in S1 compound.

They wear faster but the extra traction is worth it!

From what I understand they don't really state the compund of the plain jane stock tires for #6808 Slash 4x4. But the S1's are described as "Ultra-Soft Racing Compound". And if you have an Ultimate is should have them already. I just jumped on the bandwagon and bought some Pro-Line Calibers in M4 Super Soft and Snipers in M3 Soft to play the field - can't wait to try them out!

Is there an especial reason for not wanting the street fighters?

If you are going to run stock tires, S1 is the only way to go for traction. The stock tires are very hard. They last longer but have WAY less traction.

do the S1 tires if you put your hand around them, can the squeeze easily? So does that mean the stocks will not squeeze as easy? or should i just by the s1 compounds and be done with it?

Mine are, I beat the crap outta them on the street and they are still going strong. Even with the center diff and Momba 2400 power.

S1's suck on the track (at least all the ones I've been on with um) but for the street they work pretty well and seem to last all things considered.

The S1's are the softest compound and yes, they squeeze (and ballon) easy with a cushy air sound escaping from them.

The new proline 2.0 series tires are a good bit wider than the stock ones, the compounds can be had softer and they have a LOT more traction on most surfaces, than the S1s. The hard stock 4x4 tires are not in the same league. The stock S1s are decent on pavement or carpet, the blocks are big, so they won't sweep dust on dirt tracks, even though the S1 is softer than the crappy plastic 4x4 tires, they are only about a medium compound compared to prolines, the softer compound makes them at least useable. One other difference is the stock wheels, they are tapered and have a lot of flex on the outer edge, the outer 1/2 of a tire is sitting on 3/4" of soft foam, the inner 1/2 is on 1/4" of foam, so they tend to buckle under when cornering hard. Even if you use the stock tires, putting them on flat face wheels with firmer closed cell foams helps keep them more predictable, with less buckling and shifting. The one benefit of the stock tires and wheels is that most people ditch them quickly in favor of something better, so there are lots for cheap on ebay.
