    Pede from scratch and scraps

Well I've been hanging on to some of these parts for a while now and I've traded for some. I'm planing on making a basher pede on the cheap that I can jump, bash and let my 5 year old go to town with and not worry about it. Here's what I have so far.

this was in a pile an hour before
I have a Vxl system for it and a servo but we still need the radio and receiver. I have wheels, tires bumpers, but still need a few things. The rear shock tower is just for mock up because it's bent. I plan on going rpm with it as well as the front and all four arms. I'm going to use rear arms on the front so I can use the same offset wheels. I'm just using what ever I can find right now to get this thing running. If you have some extra parts laying around you think I could use send me a pm. I have some good stuff for trade.
    I need little things like
    Esc mount
    Battery extention kit
    Steering bell
    Long Vxl links
    Bearing carriers
    Gear cover
    Wheely bar
    Rear shock tower
    Rx/tx
    I'll keep y'all updated on it's progress

Dude, cool idea. I'm close to having something similar, but have no powerplant. I'd be more than willing to supply you with some of the items on your list if you'll paint my next body let me know!

Hot paint job! Man, I have an esc tray, waterproof box, esc expansion w/o the battery hold downs. Protrac rear carriers and pins, a couple of hexes for the front. Rpm camber links for the rear and 2 rear axles, but one is missing a yoke. A servo saver, battery post spacers, shoulder screws. And an rpm rear shock tower. You can have the stuff

I also have a ton of parts, like hexs Protrac links (for the extension) and a bunch of other stuff.

Here's a little update on my 2nd pede build I had about two hours to work on it and it's coming along nicely. Oaks hooked me up with some sweet parts, thanks bro. I installed the esc mount and extentions with the receiver box and the esc mounted the esc is alot taller than the shock tower. I like having my body's low so I guess I'll take the extentions out, mount my esc and reciever box as low as possible and just use smaller 2s lipos.
I'm going to try 32p gears on this one, starting with 13/54 I might need to go smaller on the pinion after I put the trenchers on there.
I've got most of the front end done except the carriers and steering links. I had to use rear shocks on the front because the fronts are to short with the rear arms on the front. I just ran a screw all the way through the rpm a arm to mount the bottom of the shock and put a nut on it. Works great I played around a little bit on where the best place for my spacers, washers would be and I liked them better in front, it gives you more room for your shocks and links. As for my steering links wouldn't jato steering links fit good for this wide mode? Arent they pretty long?
    More to come soon

I'm going to try to put this old ford body on there as low as I can. Even if I have to cut out the finders for the shocks to stick through. It will work for now.

What's up man! Glad to see this is coming together for you. Depending on the 3s pack you choose, you may be able to make an exact length esc lift kit with the mr riser assembly, and keep the body low

The TRAXXAS battery expansion kit seemed a bit tall for my SPC 3S pack. Also, I have heard of t/e MAxx steering links working for the wide pede mod

Well the jato steering links are to short. So will the emaxx links work? I looked at them at my lhs but I thought they looked to long.
As for the esc mount I just put it down to the chassis so im just going to use 2s lipos for it I guess.

I'm going to rob some stuff from another Rc I have for now just to get it running. The only problem I have is the steering links.

So when they say 94mm is that center of the ball end to center or is it end of link end to end o link? Or is it end. Of steel to end of steel?

Well it's rolling, I still need to mount this old body. I'm going to have to cut out half of the bed so it will sit as low as I want. Just enuf so the esc and receiver box sticks through.

Looking pretty gangster, very cool. The paint looks awesome as usual and so do all of he other pics you posted. I'm curious, did you paint the links too? It looks good and there was time when I thought about doing it myself. Wasn't too sure if there was a way to help it from chipping. I know my rear shock springs look terrible.

And spill the beans on those rims man

The measurements i posted are from link end to link end with no rod ends installed.

The measurements that are stated by manufacturers for threaded adjustable links are usually always (99% of the time) without the rod ends installed. Makes sense, because if the rod end was threaded on more or less the measurement would vary.

On the other hand, a lot of the link and turnbuckle measurements that you see here on the forum (such as protrac link measurements) are with the rod ends installed and are from mounting hole to mounting hole. When I first started with the stampede and was looking for new links, it made it kinda confusing finding the proper fit, especially when you go to the hobby shop to browse through the links and none of them have the rod ends on them. Lol

No I didn't paint any links but Id like to, the rear links are the rpms u gave me and the fronts are from a Rc lot on won on eBay but not sure what they are but there black. The wheels are nice they are arrma 2.8 wheels with 30 series bead orstandard bead. The look to be made from the same stuff as Traxxas and proline not the cheap plastics from imex and china. They also have alittle more offset than a standard front wheel. So if your running the same offsets front and rear these will make you alittle wider. Arrma also makes these is a 2.2 wheel that looks great to. The only way I found out about them is spotting them at my lhs.

Well I got the arrma 2.2's today and a big bag of goodies

Got home and got right to work on what's looking like one of my favorite trucks. I bought the emaxx links baldy recommended looked at them in the pack at the hs and thought they were alittle short so I also bought some long Vxl link ends but got them home and noticed the emaxx link has a smaller end than the Vxl links the same as a shock rod end. The links are working but there stretched out close to the end. Does and one know of a longer link end this size?

I also died all my plastics black and stole my tx/rx from my 4tec and put it all together again.

The 2.2 arrma wheels are really nice they look and feel to be made very well. I got 2.2 Traxxas terra tires to go with them and some foams. I got to say these terra tires are tough almost like a real tire. I liked to never got them on the rims. I don't think I even need any glue.

    Arrma 2.2 and 2.8

Sorry bout that man, all that info is stuff I gathered from thestampedeproject.com cuz I was going to do this mod on one of my other pedes, so I hadn't tried it out. I did however, do a search for you to find some long rod ends for 3mm threads and I did manage to find some. Hpi offers long rod ends for their shocks which have a 3mm shaft with 3mm thread on them.

Shock parts tree set for hpi savage shocks with 3mm rods:

    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDLC7&P=Z

I apologize for the hassle man, I guess they figured it works because it fits, not because it'll be durable or strong. Buggers! 

    Hope this helps.

Edit: just noticed those were outta stock at tower. Here's some off eBay that are even cheaper:

    And cheaper

    And cheaper yet lol

I got it all together except for the body and I'm pretty happy with it. I just can't get body to sit any lower in the back because the esc and reciever box are to high. I've got them sitting on the esc mount and that's right on the chassis. I'm not sure what I need to do to lower my body in the back.

Look'n good. The terra tires look real beefy.

A lot of people cut the spot where the ESC fan is through the body. I hate that.

Looking good man! About the only solution I ever came up was to trim the bed area and have the esc poke thru. It'll still be protected by the body's cab area and will let you drop the rear of the body to an acceptable level.

Probably the best bet would be to go to an aluminum frame and slap everything on it. Shoot baldy bought a sheet of that stuff from a junk yard or wherever and said he could make as many as he could ever dream of.

    INTRODUCING
    Flaming pede

The window mask from proline made that circle on the windshield when I pulled it off I guess and didn't see it till after I painted it. But other than that I'm pretty happy with the way it came out.
