I am thinking of quitting rc because all I ever do is spend money on it.
What are your thoughts on this?

Its a completely personal decision. No one can tell you yes or no. Sometimes selling everything only means you end up spending more later on to get it all back when you decide you made a mistake. Instead of selling it all, maybe try putting it all away for a bit and see if you miss it. If you don't miss it, sell it. If you find yourself wanting to go running, don't sell.
But the truth is, any and ever hobby requires a larger initial investment then a fairly continuous stream of smaller investments to keep it going. This is normal. If your finding that your spending more than you want to on a regular basis... maybe try running differently or changing where your running to reduce the amount of breakages and therefore spending your doing. Or, trying setting a monthly budget and sticking to it. Instead of just spending when and what you need to, just spend what you agreed to spend and nothing more. If you run out of money early, your done running for that month.
Just some thoughts to mull over.

I have done this once before and thought I was completely sone with RC because of all of the costs. I had no doubts that I would ever come back to it....I thought I was over it and sold ALL of my equipment. Well, about 6 months later I realized what a mistake I had made as the RC addiction hit me over again harder than ever. I had to go back and buy all new batteries, charger, parts, tools, etc....
My advice is if you are sure that you want to qiut rc, take a break for 6 months or more and sell your trucks but keeps your batteries, tools, and parts etc. Then if you do want to get back into it after a while it won't cost an insane amount to start up again.
Land of the free?
Question is: what won't you spend money on? Autos? $$$$ Video games? $$$ Computers? $$$ Food? $$$$$ Women? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Amen brother... you said it best.
I also did what motorstuff did. But my total sell off was back before electric got good. I was so fed up with nitro I just gave up and sold it ALL... but RC addiction didn't go away. Thank goodness for brushless and lipos because when i did come back I didn't have any of the old aggravations from before. I do wish I had kept the basics though. Tools, chargers etc... just the stuff that you'll ALWAYS need no matter what. If you keep that stuff all you need is a new RTR truck and your back in business.

The hobby is not cheap but I think as you gain experience it becomes more affordable. I dont spend near as much on it now as I did when I got into it. Between being more knowledgeable about wht to buy and what not to and getting better at driving so less crashes and learning more finesse when driving things just dont break as much.

What's going on? Are you continually breaking a certain part? I recently got frustrated by breaking hinge pins on my E-Maxx and learned that's kinda the deal, but smoking expensive electronics would be something else.
Perhaps there is something wrong with your setup which we could help you address; just start a new thread and link me to it. Of course, there's nothing we can do to dissuade you from leaving the hobby, but if you enjoy it, let us assist you!
Personally i have thought about the cost a lot. It does sometimes put me off - the size my savings would be now would be awesome, but then what would i be doing on my weekends and of an evening? Sat bored watching the same rubbish re-runs that i have seen a million times before. When i think of the cost it reminds me of the enjoyment, for example im a fairly indoors kind of person, but the sun has been out at a nice 20 degrees C all weekend and it gave me an excuse to spend some time with froends outdoors, took the rustler and sat around the horse race course that has huge gravel secitons in the middle and chilled with a little BBQ and RC most of the days, made it more interesting than just sitting there with just food lol.
So with the cost i have decided to set myself a car limit, not a budget, i can afford to slowly over a year build up to a max of 6 RC's, and im getting much better at limiting breakages, my p2de now costs me very little as i have all the upgrades i want on it (one or two left but not huge ones) and i think once the upgrading is finished the cost of runing drops, arguably i could drive my p2de after its smash on saturday from spares i have but i want more upgrades while those parts are broken.
Budget or truck limit are the best ways of solving the cost issue, but what you do is a personal choice, for me the cost is worth it for the fun factor i get out of the trucks, it is expensive fun but no more expensive than my last G/F or previous habbits or hobbies.

The cost was starting to get out of control for me. I took the wifes HIGHLY recommended advice and put myself on a monthly budget. I can either blow it all in one trip to the LHS or save up for something big. I get some reinbursments from work expenses from time to time so that s money goes into my RC account. Part of the issue for me is not having any patients. I really want to drop a bunch of money into my E-Maxx and make it the way I want it to be.
I totally agree with Pavementsurfer and Dadx2mj. If you enjoy running RCs, change up where and how you run. Now that I've change just about every plastic part to RPM I don't break stuff anymore plus with added driving experiance my cost on repairs have dimished.
For me, half the enjoyment of this hobby is just tinkering with it, it drives my wife nuts! When my truck is broke and the account can't support a repair, I go into clean and customize mode. I'll tear the truck down; clean and oil the bearings, clean and grease the diff's, balance the tires, re-dye my skid plates, touch up some paint. All that little stuff until my account is back up.
So yeah, like the others have said, just take a break from it for a while and evaluate what is the reason you are spending so much money on and try to fix that.
Best of luck!.
depends if you been hit with the unlucky stick. My biggest expense was the charger, the bulks second not because they broke but because i wanted them. Then the lipos, my mistake the first time, second time still use them and cvd's
The motor cost nothing but did had to buy some wire and a soldering iron.
if i didn't buy any of this it would of been on video games, now summer is nearly upon us who wants to sit inside.
I bought my maxx used and already had some great upgrades on.
I do have to look into the steering problems now, but upgrading the servos last as thats expensive to me.
Some you win, some you lose it's the nature of the game.
I do need new wheels but that can wait.
I don't know where your running but i think it could be the wrong set up for that environment.
It's all your choice at the end of the day.

I'm with a bunch of guy's, put them up for a couple months. If you miss it just blow off the dust, if not cash out.
Sometimes a little maintenance or slight change in driving style can help too.
Chew it over, it'll cost a lot more to get back into it after selling off then by putting them up.
Start your own thread on the problems you've been having, there are a ton of knowledgeable pep's here to help you get your trucks issues worked out.![]()
Look out for the tree/crunch!
LiPo? Naw NITRO!!
Only you can control what you spend on the hobby!! Just think before you spend and think do you really need this part? I race on the weekends buy i only buy if I need something. If
I break during the races then I buy the
Parts I need not want. Hops ups are nice but do you really need them? This hobby is what you make of it!!

How many cars are you up to? Have you considered just trimming down the collection. Most of what I bought used was from people who had way too many.
I don't know your fleet of trucks. If you have a couple sell the ones that are costing you. If you only have one, budget yourself either on a weekly or monthly basis. I find myself mor addicted to tweaking and trying new stuff. My Digger is my most costly one, even though it was one of the cheapest initail trucks. I find RC cheaper than any other addiction. I'm not going to say what it is but you probably get the hint of what a couple could be. So I find this as a reward to myself. As much as i'd like to run my RCs everyday i dont get to, plus i don't really want to otherwise i'd burn myself out of it. Which is something you can do unless its your job. LOL
The only reason i'd get rid of my RCs is if it was for my wife or children, and i could live with that. They are more important than the Hobby Grade Toys. I have a bad habbit of keeping stuff and not letting it go.
May not help you much but this is my thoughts on the matter.
Rudeness is the weak man's imitation of strength.
I went from electric basher to racer(4wd buggy/man that was expensive) to nitro basher/racer.
I got tired of it all because to go back to electric and get 8min runtimes was annoying and nitro wasn't for me so I sold everything and walked away about 3-4 years ago.
Now that brushless systems and lipos are pretty cheap I am back but for now only buying 1/16 scale and trying to keep it on the cheap side.
I won't go by your join date, but how long have you been in this hobby?
Pretty sure any Hobby is not cheap in the beginning. Lots to learn....
I find that in the beginning people get over their heads sometimes trying to do too much too fast with an end result in frustration.![]()

I look @ it this way:
I'm going to keep my truck. If I don't use it for a while, so be it. At least I will always have it if I do want to run. And if I do just say to heck with it completely, I may give it to my son when he's old enough to appreciate it. Otherwise, I'll clean it up and hang on to it for display.
You've already invested your hard earned $ in it, so why take a hit on your investment if there's a chance you may return to the hobby anyway? I agree it is a constant financial tie, but EVERYTHING in the world is anymore unless you hunt and forage with your own hand-made tools for your food supply and use nature for survival only.

nothing is cheap. if gas goes up to 5 bucks a gallon im gonna strap a shoe on each of my e-maxxes.lol.
when i started out i bought everything i didnt need. so i know where you are coming from.
ive been in the hobby over ten years, and i know ive spent over 8 thousand dollars, i still got the credit card to prove it. biggest mistake of my life.
imo, its what you start with. i started with the maxx nitros. learned them well. broke alot. but rebuilt and stuck with it. now that im better i barely break anything. only need fuel.
now electric is another story. im getting back into it. and almost loosing interest already. i bought a merv, stripped the diffs. i bought a little summit, burnt the motor. bought e-maxx esc is acting up. plus i got to spend a day before charging batteries.
im resting my electrics for awhile, and goin back to my jato, and t-maxx.
