    XO-1 ultimate

If you had a roller and money was no object, what components would you drop in?

Mine is technically a roller now. My new plans are :

    Airtronics MT-4
    xl2
bigger motor (if I can find one before I get the bug to drive again, otherwise I will be using the stock one)
    XO-1+Wind=(XO-1+Curb)x2=Me-XO-1=Me+Slash 4x4

Thanks! That is now on my list of ideas. What are the speed results?

I haven't tried it I'm running the 1717/xl2 on 8s I think this will provide all the power needed and will mostly come down to gearing the only way I would consider a new motor is if it had higher rpm capabilities wich would equal more speed as well

As in how there is a slash 4x4 and a slash 4x4 ultimate. Just an upgraded better version

I think mine is about maxxed out, i hit 105 the other day. ( telemetry not gps). I think it may do 110 with the timing cranked up on a hot day ( thinner air ). Guys in high altitude on a hot day may see 112 or 113. Traxxas has claimes to see 113 in testing.

I think I will wait for someone else to try it unless I land a smokin' deal on a 2nd XO-1.

Lulz, all this talk of an "ultimate".

It used to be 100 mph for an rc was unfathomable. Last summer when a buddy broke into the 80's with his GTP I was in awe.... Now 100+ can be done... relatively easily, but I'm yet to see anyone's "upgrades" actually improve the car. I doubt KD has even tested their setup beyond what the stock car can already acheive. It looks pretty...

Until you're able to hold WOT and see a sustained top speed, there's really no point in adding power.

While I don't get too excited over cosmetic only upgrades, I'm eager to see some fancy paint jobs now that the clear bodies are out. I'm a sucker for nice lighting setups too...

The ultimate XO to me is a car that gets run. Run hard, run often. By someone who will then maintain it... I'm not impressed if you spent all your money on stickers for a shelf queen. The ultimate XO to me is a car thats gone through about 10 sets of tires already, and has the battle damage to show for it.

Show me splitters worn down into flat blades.... show me a chasis filled with tire dust.... show me a video of you doing more than 100 mph without leaving the ground.... Show me a chasis grooved heavily from mileage.... Show me bugs splattered on the windshield...

If money is no object, the best thing for the car is to be run! (because its kind of a spendy car to drive in the first place... parts, tires, batteries, these things add up fast)

I'll be out this weekend... hope yall are too!

I agree with you. But, i have. I have held the throttle wide open at top speed for over 3 seconds. I was driving the xo on an airport runway over 3,000 ft long. Mine topped out at 105 (telemetry). With a few tweeks i think i may hit 107. Maybe more on a very hot day. While the car is a thrill to drive, im kinda on a plateau. To make the next leap, bigger mods are needed.

Now Im sure sooner or later people will start to call me out on this, so Im working on getting a video done.

No i think your right, I ran 105 several times but that seems to be about it for now. There are no higher gearing options, so either a new motor or esc for more speed. Maybe a different body ,more aerodynamic but none out yet.

Possibly the bigger motor can get the car to top speed sooner and require less space to do it in? Of course getting a feel for even more acceleration may take time or some newer mods??

I'm curious, can this car be run in a 2WD mode only? If so wouldn't that have less load on the motor and maybe give more speed, understandably less traction for acceleration but..............

Phildog; there are larger gears out there, just got to look. There are some on kershaw designs website.

Kwitty; theoreticallt you are correct but, even if youare able to get the car to accelerate in 2wd, fo you really want to try and brake from over 100 mph with only the rear tires? Sounds like a recipe for disaster....

I'm tempted to do this upgrade not for speed, but for heat. I've had my car stall a few times doing speed runs because of overheating. I don't want any down time, plus I can always use the stock electronics on a EREVO roller that I'll eventually get.

I like the idea... for me, a consistent accerleration is the challenge, it seems like from 70 and up is the tricky part, because I have the urge to go full throttle, and you really have to just roll into it the whole way... Which then makes me overly cautious and I spend too much room on accelerating...

I dunno... I'm mostly rambling. Any issues I'm having are driver error.

Chris could probably put a bigger motor to use, I don't think I'm there yet.

I was thinking about trying that... You could pull the front driveshafts, and the center shaft to reduce friction... But 4wd is pretty much a requirement. The front drive adds a lot of stability, 2wd would be fun just to try it... but I'll stick with 4wd for the speed runs. Notice Nick Case uses 4wd cars for his 200 mph attempts.

I'm surprised to hear that actually. I've been really impressed with the XO-1 ability to cool itself.... sure I thermalled it the other day, but I had the 34 pinion in and was running a short road course.

When I'm geared correctly, my XO-1 is good for continuous use.

You didn't put screen in the duct did you? I've seen some guys do that and it just doesn't make any sense to me...

I think the timing has a lot to do with people thermaling out, was it motor temp, or the esc?

Well this isn't a new idea but I still think it might be cool to see done on an XO-1.

Anyone care to volunteer their car towards science?

I have just been lucky enough to pick up a roller (I don't have it yet) so this thread is good for me too. I have a 1717 to put in it but I'm wondering if anyone thinks I might be able to fit a neu 1527 1.5d in if I make a few mod's?? LED's- Check!!
