I have been looking for this myself. I don't want to put 200 dls on gps. So far, the best i have found is the garmin 1100 noh...at 70 refurbished. But I think that there should be a better option.... ( cheaper and less functions). Any ideas?

I use my iphone. Seems like cheapest/easiest since you already have one.

Buy an Eagletree datalogger with GPS module addon

Logs heaps more handy info than just speed such as amps, volta, temps etc....

    Sweet tool

Oh and guys using a 1:1 to check the speed accuracy on your GPS app on your phone is not a good way to go about it. The average speedometer is off anywhere from 1-7%. I have checked mine with our Survey Grade GPS and before we changed tires it was off about 5 MPH at 70 MPH. Real speed was 65 and speedometer read 70.

However, with that said, I checked those two apps I used in the post above and they agreed with each other that the top speed was 32.

if you're gonna use an app i would get a couple of them and run it in a 1:1 to find out which is the best one to use.

I just took my old Motorola Droid, downloaded two apps via wifi. First one was GPS Speed Graph and the second one was GPS Speedometer. I then drilled four holes in my bed of my Stampede and used some plastic wire straps to strap it in. Start up GPS Speed Graph, then just hit the back button. It should tell you it is still running in the background. That is fine. Then start up GPS Speedometer. Leave it running and on that screen. Drive it around for about 30 seconds to two minutes to let the GPS satellites hook up. Then do your speed runs. They will both log the data and voila you are set up.

Just make sure that you are willing to have the phone get scratched up if you cannot keep your truck from flipping like me...

my 1:1 speedo is spot on with the radar the cops put on the side of the road that tells you your speed (luck of the draw i guess). one could check it while passing one of those if you have the chance or turning around and passing it again
