    brushless system advice

Hey first time poster here haha. So here is my situation. I have a brushed E revo and I want to switch to brushless. I am sticking with nimh 7 cell for now, but when I do get lipos, it'll be 4s.
    so what I want is:

    -4s lipo compatible
-speeds in the upper 30mph range (at least)
    -price around 200$ (if possible)
-quality is definitely important as well

some of the combos I have been looking at are:

    -kershaw Gen2 4s system
    -xerun 150a
    -ezrun 150a
    -mamba monster 2200kv
    -Mamba Max pro maybe

I would rather shell out more money for a quality product, but I really don't need 6s compatability. that's why the kershaw combo caught my eye. any thoughts or advice would be awesome, thank you!

At that price range, get a xerun or ezrun. They will get you well over your speed goal. Get one of the combos with the 150 esc, 2000kv motor and programming card. You will have to do some soldering. Cost shipped will be about 220.
While they are not the quality of the MMM or a Tekin, they are still sturdy systems and well worth the money.

Cool. Thank you for the advice. I will probably go with the Xerun combo if I can find it in stock somewhere hahaha. As far as longevity and reliability, are the MMM and the Xerun at least somewhat comparable? Also the warranty on the MMM is pretty good rite.... I guess what i am asking is should I save fore the MMM or go with the Xerun from a reliability stand point? Its just hard to spend that much money when I only want 4s speeds, but i do want a reliable set up

save the money and buy what you really want (reliability).thats what i did, and i could'nt be any happier.

and with the 4s, you can go way faster than 30mph. i'm running 2x nimh right now and its top speed at 27mph lol.

your rite, the castle is what I want, I'll be better off saving for it. that's good to know about the nimh speed since I will be sticking with that for a while. will that system eat nimh or is do the batteries seem ok?

buy what you have the money for. if you go the 350 dollar castle. you might as well go the 309 dollar tekin xr8. tekin has superb customer service.

that's good to know that they have great customer service too. I'll have to do more research on the rx8 though. both are exactly the same price, at least on the sight I was looking on. rcplanet.com 329.95$

i have a 2650KV ******* and a leopard 4s esc in my truck. if speed is what you want this set up will do it if provided you have good batteries. im hitting about 55-60MPH on 4s with out the motor or esc getting warm. it was about $120 for this combo. the esc was from dan at kershaw designs.

i cant bash the castle thoug, i love everything castle.

Now i am even more indecisive, and i could definitely use some advice. The Xerun 150a combo has tons of good reviews, and for the 200$ price tag that is pretty awesome. BUT I know that if it did burn out for some reason in a couple months I would be totally boned. So, I went back to my original idea of a dual VXL setup witch would cost me roughly 280$ shipped. I have read a lot of successful reviews on this setup. Plus, Traxxas has a pretty decent warranty service and it would retain my waterproofness which is a HUGE bonus. The mamba monster being about 50$ more with no waterproofness seems like a waste to me. The mamba may be faster, but I only want 4s speed. What do you guys think?

IMHO. Mamba monster. Stay away from water for a little while till you know your happy with it and that it's reliable then waterproof it. I've had great results with my waterproofed leopard and a friend of mine regularly runs his waterproofed mamba max pro under water in our colleges fountain.

Here's some video from YouTube that I found of the HobbyWing SC8 2700kv combo on 4s. Combo even comes with two pinions and the program card. It's about $135.00 shipped from RCECHO.com.
I'm running the same SC8 ESC and it's been flawless.

that price is pretty enticing, but I've definitely decided to go with either the
Mamba or (most likely) a dual VXL. I would rather pay more and get a decent warranty, but thank you all for the info and help.

Most definitely go MMM. This will get you going more than twice as fast with the right LiPos but with your 4s you will be hitting right on or about 30mph. If you change your pinion you can bump that up to mid to high 30s, just watch your heat on the esc.

two complete VXL systems (motors and ESCs) for 80$ a piece. so I'm getting 2 new motors and ESCs for 160$ total. they are both brand new (well, never been used). some Guy had like 6 of the vxl systems from traxxas vehicles that he bought just laying around. he bought the vehicles and MMpros for the trucks rite away from the hobby shop where I am getting these. the Guy is selling through the hobby shop instead of going the eBay rout I guess. anyway, I make out like a bandit haha.
