    Great day of running.

Had a perfect day of rc. Started off running the ERBE around a bit. Its fun, but our venue just didn't have many challenges. Pretty soon I brought out the XO-1.

We had a pretty good turnout today.

We had a simple road course setup and tore around it for nearly three hours. I ran 3 sets of batteries though the car, 16,800 mah worth.

It came back dirty, but ready for more.

I heard my thermal alarm twice today. I had the 34 pinion in, and thats not ideal for a short road course. Its such a double edge sword, the alarm goes off, which make you want to park it, but a nice big oval around the lot will turn off the alarm.

The tires took a beating... but the car was great. Took several slams throughout the day and no broken pars. Probably burned through $30-40 worth of tires though...

Everyone ran pretty well with no serious failures.

The car handled great, I added a 3-4 turns of front preload about a quarter into the day.

Is is safe to just leave them fully charged for a day or two?

Shrug. I try to charge that day, then get back to storage level quickly. I used all the packs, so I wasn't too stressed, but if a pair was still full I would have manually discharged last night.

Went for a run today, and everything worked pretty well. I've got some tracking issues again, so I'll have to take a look at the steering again.*

To my surprise the tires didn't fail today, but they're sure getting squirly.*

Another issue is the body tucking up into the rear tire. I've tried trimming it a bit, but it keeps sucking up in there. Both sides too.*

No real failures, another great day of rc. Had the 21t pinion in today, the tires actually get hotter than the motor at times. I saw 130 on the tires, motor ran probably 40 degrees cooler than last time.*

Slash has a new motor, but that's for another thread.*

Oh yea, my new charger finally arrived. 6x 3s packs, parallel charged at 20 amps.

Still took over an hour, took about 27,000 mah to go from storage to full.

The Grey Ghost was bummed out yesterday. He was stuck between shot tires and no worries or start a new set and worry about burning tires up all day. Bad driving habits or setting perhaps?

You won't find big power chargers with a 120 input. It would have a power cord like an XBOX 360's cord/convertor. If that was what you were asking about Chris.

i'd be interested in hearing what type of surface those who have had the tire issues are running on, and how many packs theyve run thru so far

does it seem very abrasive and just out right wearing the tires out.. or fairly smooth to the point that your doing a lot of spinning of the tires ... the only issues i've had so far with tires is a small slice in the center of one from what i guess was me sliding it on a stone or some other object that cut it... also a few small lines from the body hitting the tires when upside down or during other accidents

i have about 8 or so sets of packs run thru the car now and tires are holding up well, first 4 or so packs were bashing, drifting fairly rough surface (stones, etc.) .. last 4 packs have been strictly high speed runs after installing the 34 pinion

from the pics Ducati has posted the edges of those tires look "melted" ... like they were getting very hot
from doing a lot of sliding?

the biggest thing i have seen on my tires is what i call .. "chatter" .. i'll post some pics .. mostly at the center part of the tire from i think spinning the car out and having it go backwards while the tires were still turning forward.. but a few speed runs and the marks are gone..

Cool video Duc777 look at those XO-1 corner!
My front tires are looking great still. I think it's the drifting on a higher grip surface that does heat them up. I would come back from bashing with a good layer of tire dust coating everything inside.

Its tough to tell. I don't feel like I've got a ton of mileage on my car... But the tires seem reasonably durable.

Hmmm. I'm not sure. I like getting the car up to speed and trying to hold a corner, hard but not sliding... That probably is hard on sidewalls, and sure I do my fair share of sliding the tail end also. Especially later in the day.

Roger that on the tire dust.

The XO's corner every bit as hard as those GTP's... maybe even harder... Although almost everyone had sad looking tires that day.

agreed... i love seeing all the vids of these cars running, almost as much as i like driving it...

now that you have mentioned it... i do recall more tire dust when i was doing "bashing" compared to speed runs

i found a new spot for some speed runs (last spot was awesome surface but too short), we had a bunch of 70 and 80 degree days here in NY last couple weeks... now back in the 30's and 40's ... so gotta wait for warmth again to try sustained 100 mph runs

then i'll really pay attention to the wear

Check out the Revolectrix PL8 (or PL6) + MPA and a decent power supply for serious 40 amp charging to cut those times in half!

Wow, I'm surprised how fast those wore out, but then again they are hauling some weight. Makes me glad I won't be doing any "laps" with mine. Even if I wanted to I couldn't as there is nowhere smooth or big enough to do what you guys were doing in that parking lot.

You'll get much better life than I do judge. My big worry for you is you'll try to chase the xo at much higher speeds than your slash. But you've proven your competent, so I'm looking forward to the videos.

Jeez, those tire pictures blew me away, they look like Nascar fullsize tires after 60laps at Bristol! So did you guys get rubber marble buildup on the outside of your corners? lol kidding. Honestly, I think the XO-1 should be a piece of cake to drive into the 70's chasing it. When I go for an all out, no holds barred run I will have a buddy drive my car (Z28) and I'll drive from shotgun. In summer these ditches have lots of thick pillowy soft quackgrass to land in if I screw up. No curbs! Oh and by end of summer I should have 30km of brand new blacktop to play on!

I find this tire talk interesting. Are they balanced? I haven't done mine yet and have noticed some funny perpendicular stripes across mine. (You can see in pictures). Not sure if its from the unbalance or the tire structure itself? Also check your chassis in front of rear tires. When I gave the throttle a quick squeeze while suspended in air, the tires expanded enough to touch that part of the chassis. I dremeled the chassis away a little bit for extra clearance. These pics were right after 12.8km of straightline at mostly 70mph plus. I would say they were around 80fah. I was really quite surprized how warm they got given the air temp was 8-10celsius.

Round up has some kick to it. So did they lose or gain traction, maybe you hit upon a secret weapon for racers.

hmmm... no mine are not balanced either.. i havent seen any "rub" marks on the chassis as of yet, will check while its apart and dremel back any areas that look like they may have touched, thanks for the heads up,

i'd say your tires in the rear especially look like they are tracking well with the way the "line" is running on them after your long distance running
the fronts look like they could need a tiny bit of adjusting, they appear to be tracking a little inside of center

whats the padlock for? do you park it at the store and lock it to the bike rack when you go in? LOL

I left all the suspension setup as it came out of the box for a starting point. (and I'm lazy) The front tires tracking on the inside could be due to that padlock which I placed there as added cheap insurance against possible blowover. I did increase front springrate to compensate for rideheight but maybe not quite enough?

Ya, then I use the padlock to secure it outside the stripper bar. It's a rough neighborhood.

Ummm not to be too picky here but..... did you increase the preload, or did you change springs (rate)?

I haven't had any trouble with blowovers yet. Keep it straight, and it'll suck down to the ground.

I just squished the springs a little more with the adjusters. (Preload) The lock was probably overkill but I was a nervous. (Seen quite a few blowovers in other vids) These speedruns are a little nerve racking everytime I do it. The splitter and canards did thier job though... In the first video at the end when I started going the fastest actually, I hit a rock and you can see the car came right down after hitting it..
