# Thread: a few lipo questions

1. ## a few lipo questions

first whats the comparison between lipo and nimh?
what does the c rating stand for when it says 25c or 30c?
what does a higher and/or lower c rating do?
what makes more heat? lipo or nimh?

just curious about this stuff cause im thinkin of going lipo and traxxas has 25c batteries but ive seen 50 and 70c rated batteries.

2. Well i can answer one question, Lipos make more heat haha

3. hey im kinda new so i dont know were to post this
i soon will get a 1/16 e revo and i want to switch over to lipo for it but i want to now if i can use those mini 3s packs from
the revo in my rusty.
Btw C = capacity and 12C means that it can be discharged at 12 times it's capacity. It should also be stated as average or constant/continuos or a time given for peak discharge or spikes.

An example may be a 3200 battery at 20C discharge can do 64 amps. learnt that from the internet.

4. lipo give more power output than nihm. i think the c rating is the discharge of the battery the high the better iv bought and run 2x7.2v lipo packs in my spartan and the speed difference is much better from lipo's

5. A lipo in my brushless stampede makes it go ridiculously fast. I'm only on 2s so far.

6. Lipo provides a lot more current than NiMh. Current = Punch. It will feel a lot more powerful on LiPo. Also LiPos hold there voltage throughout the usable charge a lot better than NiMH. With an NiMh the vehicle will keep getting slower as the voltage drops until the pack is depleted.

The C rating is the LiPos discharge rating. It's whatever the C number is times Capacity. So a 5000mAh 25c would be 5A*25=125Amps. 35C would be 5A*35=175Amps. If the battery has a higher capacity but lower C rating, it might still be able to provide more amps than a lower capacity higher C pack. For example a Traxxas 12800mAh 25c is capable of 320A, while another brands 5000mAh 40C is capable of 200A. It's also important to note that not all manufacturers rate thier packs the same, and some outright lie about it. Traxxas seems to be very honest with thier ratings.

Do you mean more heat in the pack? In that case NiMh. If a LiPo gets hot then it's not able to provide the amps that your setup needs and you need a different LiPo.
