Burned out another servo! Second one in a week. That's it, time to buy the ******* 390. The total body count is 5 since I bought the MERV. The first couple of servos were probably due to the noob factor and the other were my son crashing into things.

get a hitec85mg any hobby store should have one and a hitec standard sevo horn

The ******* fits out of the box also and has ALL metal gears. Not all but 1 metal gear lol

Thanks fot the info guys. Just ordered the servo. Guess the MERV will be in the shop untill then. I would rather wait than fry another stock servo.

The HiTec's are a little more complicated to install than a 390.
I definitely do not consider them a drop in replacement.


I installed a new ESC and motor in my MERV today.
I need to do some finishing touches (hopefully tomorrow) and report back with an install thread.

and no the hitec85mg is not a out of the box fit right in servo.... 1. you have to modify the mounts, 2. modify a servo horn, 3. and jam it into the frame very difficultly, far from a direct fit replacement....
also as stated above the hitec has one plastic gear, others are all metal making them a notch up in durability from the hitec...

Today i installed aluminum GPM front and rear skid plates and installed a 31T pinion on my BB. The thing screams with the 31t pinion! My speed hawgs were straped with monofilimate tape and i used super glue to help hold the tape on. Well i think the tape got ripped up today because they balloon now lol. Im finally almost happy with the power of my bb and the fluid in my diffs. My merv will wheelie when i want it to but if i dont want it to then the front will stay planted.

Ran it with the new GH shock bodies loaded with Ti shafts, black springs and 60wt R, tan and 40wt F and a new traxxas rebuild kit. Wasn't pleased at first with the non threaded bottoms but no leaks so far. I was running basically the same setup with the stockers and was pleased. I guess when I changed to RPM arms all around I got the setup right because it's a new beast. It's planted, less grip rolling and it hooks up a lot better.

Still have to shim the diffs and install the CVDs but I'm going to wait till something else breaks and I have to tear it all down.

I didn't modify the mounts for my hitech, it fits right in, a bit difficult to fit it through the hole, but it's not impossible at all.. the servo horn does need to be replaced though, it comes with horns though so that's no issue. At least mine did! They are metal gears in mine as well.

The HS 85 has one small plastic gear. I ran my merv a little out back and it gets no traction off road. Its pretty amazing!!!!

Add a broken diff.. *********** Instead of just stripping it this time it broke off 2 teeth from the ring gear.

This is the 3rd time and I shimmed it last time... This thing just isn't cut out for 3s I guess.

Going to decide tonight whether to rebuild and get rid of it or keep it.

Pretty bad when a $70 monster beetle from HK is tougher than a Traxxas product.

Something isnt rite if you are tearing up that many diffs. There are plenty of guys here running BBs with 3s with no more diff problems after shimming their dffs.

how much faster is 3s than 2s
my 2s with dirt hawgs and speed pinion with stock spur went 30mph

I gave my merv a break today. I need to go out and look for new places to bash. There is a track like 20miles from me. I dont know if i wanna go tho because if i get hooked then ill be mad because i dont think there are even any 1/16 classes.

Wish I knew what to tell you.. I dont do any standing backflips or jumping..

Although a newb to this forum not a newb to the hobby(used to race 4wd 1/10 buggy).

I replaced the front and rear bulkheads with the updated ones and put 2shims front and rear(the rear maybe could use another but only had 4 total).

I do take solace in the fact that this time a tooth was broken and the diff not stripped. That at least tells me the mesh is right. I am going to loosen the slipper more although I know for a fact mine is looser than most(maybe 2 full turns out).

Managed to break my TBR Trasher front bumber with a hight speed frontal impact on a non-moving target..
But rest of the car is unaffected - TBR ftw.
They say lifetime warranty, hope to get a replacement.

I finally drilled holes into a mustang body that i took off of a old junk rc car. all i have to do is raise and lower the body mounts for it to fit straight on from the stock body so i can use both now i just need to paint it because its scratched up some and i want a blue body for my car
