S.U.G.A.R. Sl4sh Urban Ground Assault Rig

Its a full on war out there. Bikes, boards, cars, trucks, pedestrians. The city is loaded with opposition, just to get through a fill pack unharmed can be its own individual war. So I've recruited the best, a sl4sh close to fit for the mission. After some needs parts and maintenance, a bit of training, you've got the leanest, meanest, and sometimes a bit nasty Sl4sh Urban Ground Assault vehicle.
I'll be building this truck up for the next few weeks, the finished product will be a sl4sh xlmt. Wider and taller than your average sc truck im going for a extra large monster truck (xlmt). I've got most parts figured and will be getting parts daily or as often as stock allows. Some things will change for durability and some for looks. So until I pick the wheels/tires up, I'll be running like this. I'll start out with a list of what is and also try to fill in what will be but some things will be a surprise. Well here's some pix of the rig I put together friday night. I've run it and done some vids I can post tomorrow, incredible set up my opinion. Si here's the pix, try to figure out my parts installed, shouldn't be tough. Lol tomorrow you can see if you were right.

I've always liked the blacked out look so I try to get it done when I've got down time.

The body is a Jconcepts 2wd slash raptor. This is the body last summer, the same exact one lol

A few months back, I wanted to try making a blower. After cutting up a bunch of plastic packages and containers, I ended up using a plastic package that my traxxas blue alloy camber link set comes in. Its a full function intake, opening funnels air right under the body.

As far as the rest of the body, it had paint close to completely gone. The fiery orange from Pactra just doesn't stick to anything. So as it started to look worse, I started thinking about what to do. The body structure is in good shape, it just looked rough. I grabbed a roll of digital duct tape at Wal-mart, here's the results. Good fix for busted up bodies too.

That's a cool idea right, hadn't thought about that lol

Thanks for the comments guys, I've got some really cool mods I like to do to make my trucks xlmt. I think you guys will really appreciate it when you see the big monster sized components that will bring it all together.

Well that baja body of yours must ne close to its end lol, I've seen your bash video lol. The tree climb ending upside down and lid landings is what tore my baja body just behind the rear window. Liked that body alot! So maybe its a good candidate for a "duct tape beauty". That's the title of the duct tape bodies thread we have been adding to for the last 1+ year in p2de forum. Cool thread too!

if your referring to the pic i have in the gallery on pg. 10 then yeah that body only has a few cracks but otherwise still useable. as for the video, you must have me mistaken for someone else i haven't made any videos, yet. although, i wish i had my camera recording the other day cause i was trying to jump my p4de in between the chains of the swing at the park very hard thing to do, you only have a few inches on each side and my truck landed on the swing perfectly. it was pretty cool

Haha that's about the same thought I had first time I looked at it too lol its pretty mean! This is my 2wd slash

I will most likely be doing something like similar with my 4wd in this build. Funny, I just put the parts together a few night ago and now I really like it. Its almost hard to change it with a build at this moment lol. I plan on beefing this one up with a lot of oversized, monster parts.

The tires are 2.8 trenchers cut to fit. The wheels need a bit of work too I'll post a link to my how to thread I did about them. Watch for the edit and added link in a minute
Here's the link to the tire mod

Don't be afraid to try another tire and rim. Its amazing what you can come up with when you start cutting tweaking and fitting lol

or, 60.5 that is lol. Hey, as long as I don't here dueling banjos, we're cool. Sounds like a good time to freshen up some parts, maybe a tear down for full maintenance, list your needed parts and work on it. I think one of the hardest parts about owning/maintaining threse trucks is, to stop driving them. I to skip by some needs just get get a few more packs out of it on occasion.

Good morning RC Fan, how's things lol. I grabbed a few sets of them from the chop shop. They are the sl2sh rapter front posts from the raptor line released not to far back. They have come in real handy with a lot of bodies thus far.

Hey RC, I've been wanting to ask you, did you find that the D8 shocks completely hold the slash up with little chassis slap or was it "heavy" in the front, hard to tune or just needed some tuning to get it stuff enough to hold it up right? I've got these shocks working great but it was softer than a sneaker full of uh.. uh .... mud.

I thought that body came with posts... If not then I need to do some shopping! I am hoping to put this body on my 4x4. Any idea, besides a chop shop, on what posts to get to make it fit?

Are the raptor parts out yet? If so, just order some. If not here's another method I've used (im grabbing some pix to add right now) The post that do come with the body are so fragile, they will snap in the first few rolls. Check out this rapter mount, it also work nice. I used front p4de mounts, backwards. The end result is about a ½" taller than I have now.

Thanks for the info. The D8's have been great I use 60wt oil no preload at front, and they hold pretty good my heavy truck I have MIP's F&R with a MMM-2200-4s, and it handle really nice.

The pede 4x4 front mount works good I use it when running the HPI jeep body.

Good news folks, got the full trx xo1 shafts, f/r bearing carriers, knuckles and 17mm hubs.
it was a bit pricey in my opinion, he charged me $225 for the full "kit". I will be doing my install tonight, so pictures will be up when im finished. Im getting ready to loom at the exploded view on xo1. I'm hoping I wont need to change outdrives too, but i'll know in a minute.

Thanks, my mechanical is pretty solid, it's just the body shells I have are beat up because I crash alot.
I can't bring myself to invest in a shiny new shell like these guys, because I know i'll just beat it up...

I paint a new body about once a month. It's probably my favorite part of the hobbie. Even if I just get new rims and rubber, I feel its a good time to get another body, color, and look. That always freshens it up for me lol. Its like a simulated "new truck" lol. I've painted about 12-16 bodies in the past year myself.

K well it seems that every time I vet to the good stuff, something comes up. Always a pressing issue to salve lol. The good news is, while in the road taking care of some work details from past summer build (house), I got a call from the lhs/chop shop. My second set of shafts are in my hand and I'll be installing with in an hour or so. Also doing a set on my p2de and sl2sh so it'll be a fun day!
Well, when I started typing till now, I've got myself back home. Hitting the install right now!

Front clip complete, all went smooth. One change will be made for a proper fit, but all else is a correct bolt on if you get the whole assembly. Ill explain tonight but here's the front end.

Awesome. Im glad they worked. Now the price just needs to come down. I think when I get'em I'm going to attempt using the STRC carriers I already have with different bearings. I don't want the increased width. Any reason that wouldn't work?

Is the black part steel or plastic?
