RPM or Traxxas Aluminum Caster Blocks?

Hey guys, I just broke one of my caster blocks and I was wondering if it would be smarter to go with aluminum or RPM. Also if I get the Aluminum or RPM caster blocks, then is it smart to buy the same for steering blocks at the same time? Or will it be ok with the caster blocks upgraded and the steering blocks stock?

    Thanks for the help!

Aluminum for the caster block, RPM for the steering knuckle. RPM caster blocks will result in more bent pins than with stock, and aluminum steering knuckles develop slop pretty quickly.

^^^^ I agree. Alum c-blocks and rpm carriers are the most solid combo that has stood the test of time for me.

I am looking at the RPM version and it says that they are for the 5mm x 11mm instead of 5mm x 8mm. Does it hold the 5mm x 8mm to or do I have to buy bigger bearings?

I'm also wondering about the bearings. i want the rpm rear hubs, it says in the tech notes that the slash comes with the right bearing size stock. can you reuse bearings?

I had RPM castor blocks on my son's truck and they did not last as long as the stock units for some reason, we went through 2 sets before going to STRC aluminum units.

His truck also has the RPM front and rear bearing carriers and the stock bearings work with them.

Plastic casters bend king pinsas they flex on impact, especially RPM ones which are even more flexible than stock.

IMO this is the only part on the car that absolutely must be aluminium without question.

Wheel bearings must be 5x11x4. If your carriers are of the 5x8x2.5-bearing variety, change them. Current carriers are all 5x11x4, whether holding bushings or bearings. I also like the alu caster/plastic carrier combo. But if I were to switch, I would not go anywhere but Traxxas for the alu carriers.
I had RPM casters on a Pede. I won't do that again.
I know they're having their break there by your brake drums. No, you're not invited.

Ok so if I am going to go with the aluminum caster blocks. Which are better? The Traxxas or the ST Racing Concepts?

Traxxas if you like your aluminium to be like jewellery (that's what I've got) but I hear the STRC ones work fine.

So if the STRC are slightly cheaper but still really good then why not right? Or are the Traxxas ones a lot more pretty and more durable?

Also is it true that the pins don't fit through the bottom hole?

Fit and finish on the Traxxas pars are impeccable. If going alu on both carrier and caster, I like Traxxas & Traxxas. I have no idea about the bottom hole issue.

Lundsford Ti pins don't fit through the bottom hole. I am not a huge fan of those since the pins clips are a pain to remove and install without losing the tiny clips.
Stock traxxas hardware and STRC pins work as expected.

Traxxas has a strict language policy. Acronyms containing filtered words are not permitted.

LMBOoo...IF RPM IS SOO "ubiquitous with rc", THEN WHY WON'T YOU USE THEIR CASTERS??

because they flex during impacts and bend steering king pins. Alum c-blocks are much better at supporting the pins...

Are the strc c blocks threaded to accept the traxxas king pins?

    Definition of UBIQUITOUS
: existing or being everywhere at the same time : constantly encountered : widespread <a ubiquitous fashion>

He doesn't really care. He's just trying to take a shot at me, and being unsuccessful.

The very first ones, about 5 years or so ago were not. Any decently current ones are threaded just like the Traxxas aluminum versions.

I've been using Anza alu castor blocks for the past few weeks. Seems to be very good quality so far...
