    Project Cheropede

After enjoying the use of our ECX Ruckus for a couple of months now, we decided to pick up a second truck: a Traxxas Stampede 4x4 VXL, dubbed Project Cheropede.

Ran it thru a few batteries now, and this has been our experiences so far:

-Full speed slide into a curb busted a front control arm and damaged the hing pin mount on the front bulkhead. Stock replacement for the bulk head and RPM front control arms fixed 'er up.
-Power button started sticking on the VXL-3m. Little bit of 3-in-1 on the button helped a bit, but still sticks if you're not careful.
-While cleaning up on Sunday after a dirty run, noticed the steering linkage rubbing on the drive shaft. Melted part of the arm and wore the anodizing off the shaft. Adjusted the servo end points to prevent this from happening.
-The screw that goes thru one side of the ESC and the servo stripped out. Screw doesn't appear to be long enough; it was only in the hole a few threads. Parts list shows this as a 3x15, picked up some 3x20 screws and they are long enough.

Curious on how you are going to secure the rear posts to the body.

I see you got a little rust on your truck, try to spay the truck of with WD-40 (or similar) after wet runs. Nice project though!

All the snow wheelin' with zero maintenance caught up with us.

After destroying a rear carrier at the skate park, picked up some RPM carriers and started wrenching last night. Wheel bearings were siezed. No big deal; little bit of cleaning and oiling had them all fixed up.

After getting everything back together, there was a major drag in the driveline. Could barely move the truck by hand! Pulled the rear end apart to find a siezed slipper clutch bearing. So, completey tore the whole rearend apart, cleaned/oiled/greased everything and put it all back together. Rolls good as new.

Popped a battery in and took it outside for testing. Truck ran extremely slow! "Uh-oh," I thought. After a short investigation, found the battery to be barely charged. *facepalm* Also pretty sure I don't have the slipper clutch adjusted properly.

Followed the manual and set it to 1-turn CCW from full compression. Trying to listen for the misterious squeel that's supposed to stop after 2-3 feet. I don't know what I'm listening for; the thing squeels like a banchee the whole time. Readjusted to 1/2-turn CCW from full compression; still squeels and wouldn't pop a wheelie.

I'll try again tonight, tighten the slipper fully to see what it sounds like. Back off the slipper and see if I can figure out what the mysterious squeel is supposed to sound like.

1/4 turn CCW from full compression seems nice, but still don't know what noise I'm to listen for when setting the slipper clutch.

Added an RPM Slash 4x4 front bumper. The middle screw at the very back of the bumper is too long. It was rubbing on the differential housing. For now, I simply put the factory screw back in place.

Just a thought that popped in my head. Would the Bandit rear arms work on the Pede? Maybe enough to tuck the wheels and tires under the body. If so, them mount some 2.2 crawler or trail wheels and tires on it.
It's adult proof, not child proof !
