Question 2x2S and 2x3S LiPo on same 24T pinion on my ERevo Brushless?

    Hi,

I have 2x2S Lipos (5000mAh | 40C) packs that I run on 18/54 gears provided, it works great.. but I want more

Looking at buying 2x3S ******* packs (5000mAh and 6000mAh) and had a couple questions,
    1. If I drop in high speed pinion (24T) w my 54T Spur gear can I use that same pinion on both 2S and 3S packs? Or do I need to change my pinion everytime I switch between 2S and 3S packs?
    2. Can anyone confirm HK ******* 6000mAh 3S packs (nanos) fit in ERBL sides?

    Thanks!!

The thing is, 24/54 can be run for 6s onroad speed runs only... An u should modify things.
    -vent the windshield
    -add a fan
    -buy a temperature gun

Along with all of those mods, i would never ever run 6s offroad with the stock motor unless its tamed down to 18/54.

For 4s keep an eye on the batteries as gearing up to 24/54 will stress them. I know we all drive different but i can heat up some batteries running 4 s~ 21/54

Changing pinions is pretty easy since traxxas incorporated a one screw motor lock.

anr - You're saying that the 24/54 setup is okay if you run it on paved roads but not on gravel/dirt?

The only Traxxas 5mm pinions I can find is 23T which should work.. I was thinking about buying fan to sit ontop motor.. (If anyone got link to 24T please share)

Finally, can you run couple 2x3S Lipo on 18/54 setup, I'm assuming you can?

The motor temps to never ever exceed is 200*f. I usually get 170*f onroad running 6s before i back off. 6s offroad is tough on the motor since it is starting and stopping so often while spinning nearly 50,000 RPM at full throttle. The max RPM is 60,000 RPM. The heat build up when bashing 6s is tremendous... So the best thing to do is to run 6s geared really low offroad (18/54 or 18/65) Or save 6s for the road.

4s gives less heat since the max RPMs are around 35,000 RPM. The lesser voltage (and lesser RPM) allows you to gear it up and you can bash around at 50mph and stay at 150*f the whole time.

For pinions check amainhobby or towerhobby online.
Some good 5mm bore 32 pitch (mod 0.8) pinions are castle creations, robinson racing, hot bodies, etc.

before you get the 2/3s run your 2/2s with 21/54 gearing & see if you think you still need 2/3s.
Would you go flip my truck back over??
