    Anybody tried the Tacon motors?

Any one tried any of the tacon motors? They're cheap.

    The options I've seen:

1.Tacon 3674-540XL-6T Brushless Motor 2800KV for 1/8 Car Buggy Trucks EDF Motor

    2.Tacon 3660-540L-6T Brushless Motor 4000KV for 1/10 Car Trucks

    3.Tacon 2848-540XL Brushless Motor 4300KV

There are many others but these looked like they might be the best choices.

How would these compare to the stock VXL? Which one would be the best?

Just looking for a cheap backup or maybe an upgrade.

3674 would be the only one that would do the job and even then barely an upgrade

3660's are rated for similar power as the stock motor

I'm finishing putting together a big block conversion on my MERV and I'm using a Tacon 4420kv motor. if it proves to be pretty reliable, I'll consider putting one in the Slash BUT, if I do, it'll probably be a 1/8th scale and the only reason I'd do that is in hopes of keeping temps down; not really looking for a whole lot more performance. would probably even stick with my current gearing

Is there a better cheap alternative than the Tacon 3674?

Spend a few bucks more and get a decent esc / motor combo

Have you heard of anyone having success running a Tacon 36mm can motor in one of these cars ?

Run the Tacon but dont expect a huge improvement over the stock motor

If you want to run fast without heat you need a motor capable of making more power

Same here. I've run vxl's and castle setups also but stick with tacon motors now. They are extremely good for the price.

I have run them in my slash 4x4, stampede 4x4, my FE Boat, and my Habu EDF Jet. I have bashed the heck out of the ones in the trucks, one of them died the other is still going strong. They really aren't much improvement over stock. I just picked up an XO-1 a couple weeks ago and the castle motor in that has made everything pale by comparison. I just ordered a 1415 for my slash 4x4 to replace the dead Tacon. Doubt i'll be going back to Tacon.

I have used the Tacon 2848-540XL Brushless Motor 4300KV in a crt.5 that I converted to brushless its a nice little powerhouse motor for the price and runs very cool on a 2s lipo (gets pretty hot on 3s about 145-150) BUT I would not recommend it for a slash 4x4 especially if your going to use 3s because its actually a 380 size motor in a bigger 540 can. If you dont understand what I mean its a 380 rotor in a 540 can to be more clearer. I thought also by being labeled a 540XL meant it was a bigger motor but its not.

well yeah those motor types are half motor, half aluminum fins, lol. the total overall diameter is that of a 540 can, why they call it an XL I have no idea though

the one like I pictured above IS a full size 540 motor; no built in aluminum fins

More performance is really my second priority. Cheap replacement is what I'm after. Spending a couple hundred bucks for a combo just isn't where I want to go right now.

My goal is to have a cheap back up to throw in the toolbox and throw in real quick. Maybe avoid a lot of down time at some point.
